WI WI - Nicholas Hietpas, 22, & dog, vehicle found abandoned in Oconto Co., Appleton, 1 Apr 2019

He was first reported missing to Appleton Police department and then his car was found near Doty in Oconto county.

It sounds like family first reported him missing and knew that he was up near Doty so LE in Appleton could contact them and ask them to look for him. They did and found his car, but not him or Samantha.
It is very peculiar to me that if his family were the ones to report him missing that there has been total silence from them so far.

Any insight from those closest to Nicholas would sure help !! Was he familiar with hiking this area? Was vehicle dependable ? Could they have had a breakdown there ? Might they have been meeting friends or family to camp in the area ? Did he like to fish as well as hike ? Hope LE is working this right now....JMO

I would add a few more questions;
Did he bring dog food for Samantha for several additional days or a week?
Were the keys to his car found on the ground or in the ignition?
Were the doors or lift gate still open?
Did he bring food and water for himself for several days, since there are no facilities where his car was found?
Where is the car now, does LE have it as evidence or has it been released to the family?
Has LE done any kind of search for Samantha?

Which LE agency has the lead on this? Is it Appleton Police because the missing person notice was file there or is it the Oconto County Sheriff's dept. because the car was found there?
Are they working together?
Is this case not moving forward because Nick is an adult and foul play cannot be proven and he has the right to walk away from his life if he chooses?

Just checking in to see if there has been an update.
It occurs to me that both Oconto County sheriff and Appleton Police dept. are asking for tips on his whereabouts but not updating the public in any way. The family wants and needs folks to provide information but there is no direction provided.
If foul play is not involved and he just wanted to start a new life, why did he leave his means of transportation into that new life? This leads me to believe that there was self harm or he did meet with harm ( either wild life or another person).
So many potential avenues of investigation don't seem to be addressed, and it is really, really frustrating.

Thanks! That's what I came up with whole lotta nothing. Sad ...

Samantha is a unique and beautiful dog wonder if she is microchipped

I did ask on an active missing person's site in Wisconsin for an update of information on Nick and received a prompt reply that the latest they had was the poster from the five day search. There are no updates on Appleton police or Onconto County sheriff dept. either.
No contributions from friends or family on any Facebook accounts either.
There seems to be a complete shutdown, most likely because they all know something we don't know and are not sharing for whatever reason.
It is hard for me to think there was foul play because if there was LE somewhere has really dropped the ball, in my opinion.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome, huge wilderness area, no results from searches, one quite intensive, covered area for 5 days. Car abandoned, tarp and gear left unattended, Samantha's collar discarded in the area. No one seems to have seen these two or hesitant to come forward. Anyone ? And many Thanks Rosiebones !

I have checked the Oconto County sheriffs department Facebook page this morning and noticed that the missing poster has been bumped up and there is a very interesting comment added that provides some insight. I cannot bring it over per TOS but it is worth looking at.
