WI WI - Nicholas Hietpas, 22, & dog, vehicle found abandoned in Oconto Co., Appleton, 1 Apr 2019

It is hard for me to understand how, in this day and age, a person can just disappear without a trace. It just isn't right !
I agree. There are electronic breadcrumbs everywhere. You practically can’t work a job and get paid without at least an electronic pay card. There are so few industries left that pay cash (wait staff & laundry machines). I can’t imagine this guy would land in one of those. It makes me wonder who would kidnap him and for what purpose? Did he have a girlfriend and get caught up in a love triangle? Did he get caught up in the new marijuana trade that’s gripping the country? That is the only cash based courier type job I can think of because, banks cannot legally, or knowingly, accept “drug money.” But then, where’s the dog? This is so baffling.

I live in WI and this case drives me nuts.
I don't know if this was posted but this looks an awful lot like his dog.
Lost Dogs of Wisconsin
I also found this:
NICHOLAS HIETPAS MISSING-PERSON CASE UPDATE (Mountain, Wisconsin): Team MibSAR recently completed a search in the 1.5-million-acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest for Nick Hietpas who has been missing since April 1st. Unfortunately, Nick was not located.

I have been puzzled from the beginning as to why there has not been more social media presence to his disappearance. He has a sister, cousins, friends from high school and from his work and yet I have never found any discussion of what might have happened to him or Samantha. I just checked newspapers in Appleton and up where he disappeared again and I can find nothing since the middle of August, the 24th, or thereabouts. Just repostings of his missing poster.
I have honestly found more follow up to possible sightings of Samantha.
There must be a lot more know privately than has made it into the media.

I just checked the mibSar.com site that did all of the searching early on and their website said they intend to go out again as soon as the snow melts and before the leaves come out. It is worth looking at the comments. A FB site of a family member does not show him listed anymore so I am assuming they know so much more than we do about what happened. I am coming to the conclusion that it was self harm. MOO MOO MOO MOO

You have to know his mothers name and scroll down some. The comments weren't any new information just kind and supportive comments back and forth, indicating to me that the family is not without support etc.

Reposting for those who need it.

Michael Neiger is the Lead Investigator at Michigan Backcountry Search & Rescue www.mibsar.com. He has posted an update June 12, 2019 on Facebook.

ETA: He has made a few other posts for Nicholas also.

I am never sure what can be posted on WS. I did read several comments from his mother and a couple of others either on mibsar or her FB account which is what I was referencing wishing Happy Holidays etc.

I agree. This particular one falls in a gray area. Including the mibsar website is ok, including a personal Facebook page that is not the victim, or LE determined perp, is not ok. The only way to see comments on Facebook for mibsar is to go to Michael Neiger’s page. His page does appear solely dedicated to the searches and related work. However it is not listed as an official mibsar page. So, kinda gray area there....

Oh, I was so hoping when I saw his name near the top of the missing list that there was some good news. Not this time, I guess.

if he really loved his dog i do not think he would have taken her along had he planned self harm, unless he decided to kill her also, which makes removing her collar pointless.

ITA and why remove the collar? If Nick did it, that wouldn't make sense because if she was found with her collar and tags then she could be returned to home. And that collar was found unclasped in the middle of a different road some distance away.
I have always thought someone ambushed them as they were setting up the campsite. MOO MOO MOO

Not sure they stopped to camp there check it out on Google Earth. Lake is up the road a good bit. Not even sure that's a good spot to stop to scout out a campsite. Has anyone seen in media if the car was in running condition? I sure couldn't find it. TIA
Prayers for Nicholas and Samantha and family. MOO

I always wondered why he picked that spot. Perhaps to avoid paying a campsite fee, then I thought maybe he was meeting someone, probably a man because there are no bathroom accommodations around that spot. As I remember, he was reported missing April 1st 2019 when he didn't return from the camping trip. His car was found a couple of weeks later, with equipment around the outside of it covered in light snow. This led to the belief that he was in the act of pitching camp when he disappeared. I have always thought there was foul play involved.

Why has there been such quietness around this disappearance, no family, no friends, no LE nothing. I don't understand. I did as WisconsinMissing if there had been any updates. Haven't heard back yet.
