Whoever this poor gentleman is, he has been identified. At this time Berkeley SO has not released his identity, pending notification of his next of kin. Not sure if that means he is no longer with us or is due to medical privacy laws.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his location.

"I appreciate the diligent and continued effort in the search for my father, whose disappearance has caused my family and me great sorrow," said David Dantzman, Tony's son. "Any information no matter how small or seemingly insignificant is valued. If you know anything, please come forward and help my family in the search of my missing father."

Noting:
  • The last known images of Tony are of him walking by security cameras at the Northern Lights Motel.
  • His family believes he must have been picked up by someone.
  • “He definitely got a ride,” said KS, Tony Dantzman’s son-in-law. “I’m almost positive of that because the dogs couldn’t find any sign past that point. And with all the family reunions going on that weekend, we had a lot of relatives there, and we did grid patterns--everything within a mile pretty much-- and we covered every inch of that. It wasn’t like he walked over, fell in a ditch and died. He got in the car with somebody.”
  • Dantzman’s granddaughter KD lives in California says the pandemic forced the on the ground volunteer search efforts to find Tony strictly online.
  • KD said Dantzman could be completely unaware that he is lost or missing.
  • They’ve had several promising leads. The most recent came from an antique shop owner in Prairie Du Chien who told the family she spoke with Tony Dantzman face-to-face the weekend he was reported missing.
  • “It was so eerie,” KD said. “This sounds just like Grandpa Tony, and the detectives investigated. They didn’t get too far because it was a rural area--no surveillance cameras to really confirm. But what we received from that one is that at that point is: ‘I’m heading out west to my family trying to get out west. Oh, I love antique shops.’ And she gave him pamphlets of antique shops all along the route going from Wisconsin west, so if we could do boots on the ground that’s where we would search once we can.”

this is such a weird case- Occam's Razor says that an senior MP with dementia has likely gotten lost and passed away somewhere secluded, but this guy seems very competent. Competent and cognitive enough to house/feed/cloth yourself without using any bank account or getting identified as clearly needing help but not cognitive enough to recall any personal/family info or seek help? Sadly i just dont have high hopes for Tony :(

Amazingly enough there have been recent sightings of Tony in Western WI!!

Silver Alert, Norbert Anthony “Tony” Dantzman, 89-year-old Korean War veteran now with dementia, disappeared from Winter, Wis., over Labor Day Weekend 2019 after walking away from the motel he was staying at with his daughter and son-in-law during a trip to attend a family reunion.
Footage from motel security cameras show Dantzman walking away from the room, and in subsequent searches, dogs followed his scent to a nearby highway. Authorities think Dantzman might have been picked up by a passing vehicle.
The latest sightings were reported in Prairie du Chien, Wis., as recent as May 2021.
Chief of Police Kyle Teynor is leading the investigation. Dantzman’s oldest granddaughter runs his missing person pages on Facebook and website, https://www.facebook.com/bringtonydantzmanhome and Tony Dantzman – Trihelix/.
Dantzman is a widower, and his dementia has grown worse since his wife passed away, so he spoke often of getting married again and often approached women to ask if they were single.
Dantzman grew up on a farm near Winter that his parents bought in 1919. The extended family was celebrating that 100th anniversary with a reunion, which is why Dantzman was in Winter.
After growing up in northern Wisconsin, Dantzman joined the Merchant Marines and was based in Duluth, Minn.,working on the Great Lakes. Then he joined the Marine Corps and served in Korea.
After leaving the service, Dantzman followed his oldest brother to Medford, Ore., where he worked as a logger and dance instructor. He settled in Crescent City in northern California for better logging opportunities and eventually became a home builder.
Since Dantzman has dementia, he may not act as though he's missing and could now be living with someone in your area who is also unaware he's missing. He was adamant about finding remarrying after his wife passed away a few years ago. Plus, he’s quite the charmer.
Anyone with information regarding Dantzman’s whereabouts, please contact Chief of Police Kyle Teynor at 608-326-2421 or granddaughter Kasey Downey, 805-450-6297.

Wow! Wonder if these 2021 sightings have been validated? If so, hope he's not living rough with no access to medical care. I just find it kind of unbeliavable than in the past 2 years he has not accessed any health service that would require insurance/registering.
Also wondering why they believe he is living with someone else? Was he spotted with another person?

Family continues search for missing grandpa – 6PARK.NEWS/WISCONSIN
[...]

Teams searched for months, but nothing turned up. More than two years after searching for answers, the family clings to the possibility that Tony is still alive.

“He didn’t have his ID or his phone number. Being away from us for so long, we think maybe he found an old lady whom he claimed to be his wife and started a new life, “said Downey.

Kasey says her grandfather always said that he wanted to remarry after his grandmother died. “We hope it’s still out there, but a part of us knows that there might be a darker side to what happened that hearts are not ready for yet,” he said.

It's been three years since a veteran went missing in Sawyer County but law enforcement officials tell us they won't stop investigating until this case is solved.

[...]

K9s tracked his scent to a nearby highway that Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek told News 18 is in a very desolate, and wooded area. He said the case is still being investigated but they haven't had any new information surface for quite awhile.

Mrotek said they've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours searching for Tony but they will never stop until they have closure.

[...]

Tony's family wanted to share this message: Tell everyone you love that you love them and tell them a lot. And stay in touch with them. It matters.
