On July 19th, 2022, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by a dam operator for a dam which was located on the Wisconsin River, near Wisconsin River Drive and Jefferson Street in the Village of Port Edwards, Wood County, Wisconsin. Maintenance workers discovered human skeletal remains in the water. Law enforcement searched the area and located a skeletonized lower leg with a work boot on the foot and a human skull. Tangled around the boot and leg were the remains of long underwear and fleece pants. In the pockets of the fleece pants were eleven (11) coins of U.S.A currency. The most recently minted coin was a penny from 2016. The work boot was a Carolina steel toed boot with a Vibram sole. The boot was size 10.
The man was 26-76 years old, 5'3 - 6'0, and died between 2016 and 2022.
I believe this John Doe is possibly Gerald Brody, who was 73 years old when he disappeared on April 13th 2017. Gerald was last seen on trail camera footage in the woods south of his residence on 04/13/2017. The area where he was spotted is located near State Highway 73 and South Young Street in Wood County, Wisconsin. Neither have any exclusions in NAMUS.
The red pin indicates where Mr Brody was last seen, the smaller grey pin shows where John Doe was recovered.
