I don't see how the sick and neglected dog "Coya" could have been following Reena around prior to her being found deceased in the canal. That dog had to be ill and barely able to walk.
In a video news link last night, the dog was said to be found in the house and his neglected condition is listed as part of the criminal complaint.
In an earlier news link, the dog was said to be found on the property??
I tried to view the criminal complaint last night to see exactly how it was stated, but the document must not be available to the public yet.
Maybe, they were keeping the dog in the house to keep it alive and prevent other animals from attacking it ... just maybe. Pretty disgusting to think that but it's the only reason I can come up with.

In more searching of the premises authorities found a dog Coya on the couples property who had been severely neglected. The
toenails on each foot were extremely long causing the foot to flatten and the toes to curl up. It was covered in fleas and had an extreme loss of hair to the back half of its body. There were open sores on rear legs, underbelly and back. The dog was lethargic."

And this is the dog that Reena played with and went everywhere with her? No telling what she could have caught from it. Lazy and unfit are words that are too kind for mommy and daddy. I hope they throw the book at them.

I was thinking that last night, but didn't mention it. That dog was being eaten alive by mange parasites...and probably a couple of parasitic worms as well; which can be passed to children thru the dog's feces....and she was running around barefoot alot..from the reports.
We may hear of that if the testing was done and/or they were suspicious of it. imo
What truly careless people they are. I'm betting we are hearing just the tip of the iceberg. :furious:

I first doubted the mother when she stated the dog came from the river, but it could be she just calls the canal the river also. Officials stated the dog, which belongs to the people who have found her before, was found a few feet from where she was found....and had been in the water because he was wet.

On the day of Reenas disappearance and subsequent drowning, a woman in downtown Danbury saw Reena walking alone, a half mile from her home, at approximately 5 p.m. She approached Reena,
who was with a dog the girl said belonged to Billy Bob (a friend of the family) and added that she was looking for her mother.
After returning home the woman said a neighbor informed her that a little girl was missing. She reassured the neighbor that she had already found the child - but the neighbor said no, shes missing again. The woman then went looking for Reena again and saw Reenas mother standing in the road talking on a cell phone, obviously not looking for her daughter. When she arrived at the parents home,
she said a dog named Taz (a dog belonging to a neighborhood resident) who was soaking wet.
