A sad thing when they all know what happened to Ruth but never able to prove it. So many cases like this with previous physical/emotional abuse from the husband or boyfriend. Below is a lengthy article from 2003, an interview with Ruth’s mother. Plus, there are a few more details surrounding her disappearance.

Thank you for this. I post a lot of MP cases - especially old or under-reported cases, and those with very little information - in hopes that sleuths like you can ID them or rule them out. :)

The most important step is creating visibility for these cases. The more eyes, the better. Thank you for creating the threads. You never know when the right person may come along with the information needed. All MP’s deserve our attention.

<< Circumstances of Disappearance

Mazuchowski was last seen in the morning when she left the home of a friend in Paddock Lake, Wisconsin on March 25, 1997.

She last appeared at her place of work in Kenosha on March 24. She had just begun a new job she enjoyed and was making plans for a new, independent lifestyle. She had temporarily moved into the home of a friend with whom she worked. She disappeared two days after she left her husband.

Mazuchowski left behind all her belongings, clothing and jewelry, at the friend’s house. On March 26, she never showed up for work. She also left two unclaimed paychecks at her work place.Neither the friend, Mazuchowski’s husband, nor her son reported her missing to local law enforcement authorities. The husband stated he didn’t feel it was his responsibility because they were divorced. The three denied any knowledge of her whereabouts. She was reported as missing by her mother on May 19, 1997.

There is no information on any vehicle she may have left in, nor has foul play been ruled out >>

From the above listed article

spouse was Thadeus (Ted) Mazuchowski and their son Richard (DOB 11/11/79). There’s no record of a divorce in circuit court case searches.

She had temporarily moved into the home of a friend with whom she worked. She disappeared two days after she left her husband...

Neither the friend, Mazuchowski’s husband, nor her son reported her missing to local law enforcement authorities. The husband stated he didn’t feel it was his responsibility because they were divorced. The three denied any knowledge of her whereabouts. She was reported as missing by her mother on May 19, 1997.
The fact that the friend didn't report her missing I find incredibly disturbing and sad.

I get the husband not reporting her. According to the article posted above, Ruth "suffered physical and emotional abuse" at her husband's hands, so clearly he didn't have her best interest at heart.

But her son who was 17 years old at the time? And the friend who was sheltering Ruth? They didn't bother to tell or ask anyone? If Ruth's mom hadn't driven the 900 miles to figure this out in person, would the son and the friend have been content to just move on without saying a word?

Did Ruth's husband threaten them both into silence?
