So apparently it is not a scam…how the hell are they communicating if it is her and only speaks Russian ?
Hello, love language.

Google translate, probably.

And if it's under Russian rule, it's not like we can call and ask for our dumb American back.

No verbal communication. It is all about lust. She probably used Google translator to write the messages while they were at the ''courtship'' stage. The level of spoken English in Uzbekistan is pretty bad in comparison to that from neighbouring countries unless people attend the international schools in Tashkent from an early age (and this is very expensive!) A middle-aged man going through a crisis who suddenly thinks he is irresistible because someone from another country has paid him attention. Jmoo.

WOW - his poor family. If I was his kid, I'd change my name.

Do you mean previous trouble or trouble arising from faking his own death?
I'm still thinking he was catfished and may be in trouble due to that. That does not mean he is not also in trouble for all the fraud. MOO

Wait to see when the money ends IMO how love language then goes …
Sorry for the sarcasm, I am shocked at what he did to his wife and esp kids. I was still hoping for the scam….But it is even worse. Shame
I cannot understand how any man can be so cruel to harm in this way people who love him.
Those poor kids.

I think they're littles.

Here's the thing. He has the right, I guess, to do an about-face in life. Whatever, to each his own.

But stealing marital assets (I assume that's where the money he wired came from), staging an elaborate death hoax, purchasing insurance fraudulently? That is waaaaaay outside the bounds of legal.

Never mind what's moral.

Knowingly waste LE resources on a useless water search. And then on an international one.
Leave your family to worry, grieve.
Leave your spouse with all the bills, responsibilities, joint debts if there are any.
Leave your family to unknowingly cash out a fraudulent policy.

How did he decide he could rewrite all the rules of legal and moral decency?

He'd full of himself. Well, full of something.

My smpathy to his family.

Here is the press conference on you tube in case you missed it

IMO, local LE is emotional and trying to get him home at least in part because they've witnessed his family's grief. They've seen them mourning him when they believed him drowned, and then a whole new devastation when they learned the truth, that he chose over and over again to just...leave them. That would be devastatingly traumatic to any wife, any kids. Like, I'd like to tell the guy that even though he appears to be a total moron for thinking he could get away with his plan, his wife and kids deserve to gain some sort of closure from him. I can't begin to imagine the lasting effects of this situation on his family members' lives.

I came away from the PR with the idea that they want him to come home, set things right (as right as possible), and that's his best possible outcome. That's the best it will get for him. If he does not come home, things will get even more complicated for him. MOO.

What's the economy like in Uzbekistan? His earning power greater there? Maybe he didn't feel very successful here in the breadwinning department. Kind of an Eeyore sort of guy with the little black rain cloud. Thought $375k would set his family up nicely, as if he'd earned it. I wonder how much money he transferred (stole) (from his joint marital assets) and what he's doing for work wherever he is. Reinvented himself as a successful single guy?

I'm confused. They said he's in Eastern Europe, so he's NOT in Uzbekistan, right? So the "Russian lady" is maybe from Uzbekistan, but perhaps living in a different country in Eastern Europe, where Ryan went to? I'm getting so confused.(Not aimed at you, Megnut, just a general question based off your post.)

The only geography I know is the RISK board game. Of 1987.

I thought Uzbekistan is in Eastern Europe, no?

It borders Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south - putting it in Central Asia.

(My laugh react is at your Risk comment lol)

This plan was so outrageous, I do wonder if he has a history of other outrageous (albeit less so than this) behaviors. And if so, his family may wonder why, what's going on with him?
That's not to excuse his actions, but I think his thinking process may be atypical.
(Note - I have not watched the presser.)

yep just in time for college tuition!
hope that's not what he took on the road with him and left a LI policy and stage drowning behind

They should check, if they have not already, Bulgaria plus the FBI office there is very efficient. Perfect place to ''hide'' as a typical American teaching EFL. He is very generic-looking, that is an advantage for him. Failing that, hope they are checking these countries that a google search tells this is where most of the Uzbek diaspora is.
