Found Alive WI - Ryan Borgwardt, 45, Green Lake, 11 Aug 2024 *evidence that he faked his death and is alive in Eastern Europe*

ha!! i went to highschool REAL close to where he went missing. Wild!
This man is having the worst midlife crisis. Also, why did the sheriff call Ryan "emotional"? I keep wondering about that.
I imagine he’s emotional because he was caught! Feels like a fool, didn’t want his family to know he bailed out on them, that he’s only really cares about himself. What’s the saying ….
You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice.

I would be emotional if I destroyed my life and everyone I love. But I have empathy. He’s emotional because he got caught and may suffer consequences. Moo

I think he was okay letting his children grieve and suffer his loss, but was emotional when he realized his kids knew he lied and betrayed them.

He didn't like facing he ruined his reputation with his own kids.

I doubt he was emotional for them, but for the public disgrace he brought on himself.

Still, like the Sheriff said, messes can be cleaned up. He can come home and do the right thing by everyone he hurt.

The massive problem he is going to face is that, if the life insurance fraud and other charges go through, he will have some sort of record and these days lots of countries in the world are pretty strict about it and he will be banned from entering their territory.

There's a strong chance this person will have a very limited number of places he can move to, and most of them will be dodgy to say the least. He has really messed up his life (and what decent employer would want to hire him with a proper contract? this is bad publicity for any good company, to have an employee like Ryan...cash-in-hand jobs are most likely a permanent feature in his future if he decides to stay abroad.) Jmoo.

Do we need to look for him? Is he a VIP of sorts? Or - a useless dude from a tiny town? If he committed several frauds, I’d either let him loose, just warn border control about the passport, or if he gets in trouble somewhere, it was by his own choice. He didn’t take care of his family, they are entitled to use whatever he had left, and when he runs out of money, he’d probably reemerge. But, I don’t make the decisions.

What's the right thing to do? Admit guilt? He already did that. The "kids" are apparently older, not Santa Claus age. They realize what he did. JMO but I would never trust him again. Maybe he'll come home if the Uzbekistan woman rejects him.

I think he needs to come home and let the Feds continue the investigation into what I suspect is a bigger crime than faking your own death and insurance fraud. He might not be the target of the Federal investigation, I don't know.

There is a reason local LE is making the effort to coax him home and for the moment, I trust whatever reason they have even if I don't know the reason right now.

Yes i think the fact that there are 3 children, all within years of paying for college, there has to be at least an injunction on the finances.
Question. If her name isn't on an account, say a college savings account as the custondian, and its only his name, does she still get to file a claim of theft on that because they are married. Or is the money under his control if he's the only one on the account?
I think (or try not to think) of those kids who are now in school. Small community where all is known. Must be awful for them.

The reason then is he needs to come home to face consequences. This is a public interest rather than a reconciliation.

I agree and have stated upthread that I think the presser was coax him home for some reason we don't know about yet. I don't think it was a surface-level, "Golly gee, your kids miss you" reason.

But I'll sit back as I don't think many agree with me that the picture is bigger than a runaway dad on an ebike. (That ebike detail does make me laugh, though.)

Somewhere in Madison, someone probably has a new ebike for nothing! Left unattended for days by the bus station - I'm sure someone is enjoying it now.

It seems a lot of the community and his friends were shocked by his actions, not just his family.
he's embarrassed and scared he wont be accepted for his horrible decisions

Or if she turned out not to exist.

The kids are teenagers.

I just don't see his heart strings being pulled by the sheriff. He's invested time and money in an Uzbekistan woman, plus he obviously does not care about his wife. Maybe years later he'll have a realization and an emotional moment and attempt to see his kids, who, hopefully, will ignore him. JMO.

Flora Stevens, this is who this reminds me of. The woman who disappeared in Catskills mountains and was found 40 years later in a NH in Massachusetts. Basically, she punished her husband as he always was suspected of having to do something with her disappearance and he did not! He never divorced, never remarried. Hers was a case of psychogenic fugue when one wants to leave his life behind.

When one fakes own drowning you wonder what exactly, in essence, one wants to stage.

I read this article and it sounds like her husband was abusive and she was hiding from him because she was afraid of him.

That we don’t know. The way she disappeared, and there was a prior history, I remember he was always poi until his death and she was found much later. But fugues are common; there were several cases in NY alone.
