After more than a year without answers, family and friends of missing Milwaukee man Ryan Withee aren't giving up on the search.

They held a vigil Saturday night, April 15. His mother said she thinks he's dead, but with no proof of that, she and her family are left without closure.

"The worst part is not knowing," said Dorliene Lanctot, Withee's mother.

It's not just Withee that's missing, but the pieces of what happened. Lanctot said just as memorable as her firstborn, whom she shares a birthday with, are details of the last time she heard from him.

"He went missing April 4, he reached out to me April 4 – 3:18 p.m. – at work. I’ll never forget it," she said.

Lanctot said Withee, who was 36 years old at the time, was confused – telling her he was put on new medication.

"He did suffer from addiction, he fought and wanted to be sober. My son, all he wanted was to be happy," said Lanctot.

Lanctot said, in the days after, Withee's cellphone and backpack were found in separate locations more than a mile away.

"I felt something within me that he’s no longer here," she said.

"I try to tell police, I know my son. He’s not going to just disappear, especially with his cellphone and backpack in two different locations, that’s not my son," she said.

8th & Oklahoma or 3650 South 14th St. are the locations listed by NaMus. I looked at the map and it's not unheard of for someone to leave a body in a cemetery. There's LOTS of cemeteries around there, continuing going north off the map. Another option is Wilson Park, especially the pond. It's a huge amount of search area, but hopefully people are looking.

Also here's a link to his mom's "Bringing Home Ryan" facebook page. Bringing Home Ryan | Milwaukee WI

Forgive me, I’ve been mulling Ryan Withee a lot lately. I'm trying to figure out the phone location and the backpack location.

From what I understand, and I’m not sure if this is how it went down because the description is unclear, Ryan left the halfway house (spot A) with a white garbage bag of his belongings, a backpack and his phone. He either just throws most of his stuff down along the way (weird) or he’s assaulted and it’s taken from him. The phone ends up in spot B (The alley on 8th). The backpack ends up BACK at spot A, but outside on the street. And the garbage bag there’s no explanation of what happened to it.

“Was last seen at 3650 South 14th St., Milwaukee in the Morgandale neighborhood on April 4th at 3:30pm….His phone was found in an alley on 8th and Oklahoma sometime Tuesday morning exact location is unknown, his back pack was found sometime Tuesday April 5th back at the last address” (this is from Have you seen Ryan Withee? )

For a second, let's assume the person who took the phone didn't go to the alley alone. So, if Ryan got to the alley on 8th with his backpack, shouldn’t we see whoever it was on camera bringing the backpack back? Either him or the thief? And why would they leave the cell phone? Isn’t it worth something?

One, someone found identification on this bag that was just sitting there in the alley and brought it to the house and left it outside for the owner. Two, someone followed him from the house, jumped him, took what they wanted from the bag and threw it away back where they lived. Three, the phone is a red herring and only the person who jumped him went do that alley. The camera should have caught something.

Any ideas?

Post on the official Bringing Home Ryan page by administrator:
"I received a phone call from Ryan’s care coordinator telling me that she received a phone call from Ryan’s ex roommate D [Removing name because of Websleuths rules] saying he was concerned about Ryan and he went on to explain that he found Ryan’s backpack outside open up against the house that Ryan previously resided at along with the ex roommate. D went on to say that he found her number because he went upstairs and went through Ryan’s things and found it... D was the last one to see Ryan and then he ends up with his cell phone and his backpack. Yet the police felt there was no foul play and in my eyes the way his case was treated he was just another addict."

Family had Ryan added to Doe Network today:
However the information is slightly wrong, I just don't think it's been updated recently - her case was taken over by Sensitive Crimes because Ryan has been missing for so long. So no longer District 1.
Agency Name: Milwaukee Police Department - Sensitive Crimes Division
Agency Contact Person: Jamie Sromalla
Agency Phone Number: 414-935-7405
Instead it's Officer Sromalla at Sensitive Crimes who is handling it.

“Yo, yo, I need help bro.”

That frantic-sounding message was written at 1:10 a.m. on April 7, 2022, by the Facebook page of then-36-year-old Ryan Withee.

At 2:10 a.m., came another hasty message: “Deat.” No one knows what the second message refers to, but it’s one of the final clues about Withee’s whereabouts, albeit an elusive one.

This is the last image taken of him:

This representation of him - while I think it is fair and evenhanded -we need to remember there's things we don't know and neither does the author or Ryan's mom. This is an ongoing investigation, kinda thing.
