The Waupun Police Department entered Ryan J. Mitchell as a missing and endangered person.

His car is a black 2016 Ford Fusion with license plate 276-YSM.

He was last seen early Saturday morning, according to police.

Police are asking for anyone with information about Mitchell to call 911.

Ryan Mitchell, 31, was last seen Saturday morning around 7 a.m. at Waupun Memorial Hospital. He was wearing jeans and a Guns and Roses t-shirt. He is about six feet tall and weighs around 170 pounds.


His mother, Sue Mitchell tells WKOW-TV, that her son had been asking police for help because he was feeling suicidal. Authorities allowed him to drive himself to another medical facility in Fond du Lac but he never showed up there Sunday.


Police believe he is driving a black 2016 Ford Fusion with the license plate is 276-YSM.

Would they let someone having a heart attack drive himself to another medical facility 20 miles away (I am assuming Ryan did not decline having an ambulance take him since he had already been asking police for help)!? When someone is having suicidal thoughts, it is a true emergency.

He hasn’t been seen in over two days. I am so worried about him and heartbroken for his mom ....

I agree. Someone should have accompanied him, for sure. So sad.

Thank you for the update, Midge. I have tears rolling down my face. Ryan was doing the right thing by asking for help. He did exactly what he was supposed to.

I am speechless. This poor man reached out for help because he knew he was suicidal and got turned down by the Police. There are no words to describe this. RIP Ryan.

When will people realize that suicide is real and when people say they need help, they mean it.

Horrible - just horrible. I'm from Wisconsin; I still consider everyone there family.

and we always say on other threads how important it is to ask for help, and how to ask, and where to ask, and how to help when someone does ask. This is just outrageous and unacceptable.

And we read and we study and we learn and have found that when people want to kill themselves, they usually will find a way regardless. But if a person is ASKING for help, then there is a chance - a window within which to change the course of action - but any chance here was ripped away...

I have no clue what "justice" would look like in this case but his family needs some...

I am so angry about this case. There is absolutely no reason he should have been told to go elsewhere alone. Every single person he came into contact with while in that state of mind failed him.
