I have to ask..how old was your husband when he was dating the 16 yr old?

Old enough to make it a dumb move. He was a manager at a Wendy's, 34, I think. Her parents got her a fake ID so she could work, and it said she was 17. They dated 6 months, and the parents of the girl didn't like him and offerred her a car if she'd let them tell the police her age and send him to prison.

I think 34 year old men ought to stick with women their own age - but he was raised in Texas with backwoods kind of family members - and I guess didn't have the same idea of what is "right" as I do.

I've met some 16 year olds who are more sexually active than I ever was, even in my 20's - and it's hard for me to think of them as being any sort of victim.

I agree, I know when I was 15/16 I was curious about sex but was not actually having it. Teens do know right from wrong and they are able to tell people about a crime.

My 16 year old stepdaughter just moved in with us and her step-father is about to go to prison for sexual misconduct with a minor. Apparantly those 2 had been carrying on sexually since she was 15 with the first intercourse around her 16th b-day. I know she is a victim but it is hard for me to totally blame this guy 100%. Mom also holds some accountability also she is really stupid for not noticing something going on between those 2. The police report, which I have not read and don't want to, is very graphic and says those 2 had sex in mom's bed while she was sleeping! It was a full blown love affair but an illegal one. Mom has been uncovering alot of journals about all this, all which the detective now has.

Sex offenses against small children of course should be prosecuted heavier than a teen.

This guy has been given a plea bargain which he has 2 weeks to accept or go to trial. If he actually goes to trial he is really stupid since he will face up to 20 years in prison and my SD will then have to testify. Now with the plea bargain he faces 5-10 years depending on the judge, lifetime probation and registration as a sex offender. We are really hoping he is smart and takes the plea bargain. That way he can still get out of prison relatively young.

But because there are aggravating circumstances, being he was married to her mother and some od the sex happened in their bed, they are tacking on a couple more years.

I have to say and I am probably going to get slammed for this, 20 years in prison for sex with a 15/16 year old is a little exessive even though this guy is a jerk.

5-7 years is more appropriate given the age of the victim. If it was a 5 year old child, heck, lock him away for life and cut off his ding dong but I just hope he accepts the pleas bargain so we can all get on with our lives.
