My Dad is left handed, he is 75 now but had a Catholic schooling, run by nuns. He said he was punished terribly on a daily basis for using his left hand, he was told he had come from the devil, he was FORCED to use his right hand, and was then punished again for his work being untidy! My son is left handed and my STILL says to me....... "Don't ever force him to use his right hand", the memory is obviously still with my dad all these years later and it's so sad.

My Mum and her sisters also went to the same Catholic school and they all say they were emotionally, mentally and physically bulied by some of the nuns, they can remember vividly how cruel they were.

What annoys me is what gave these people the right to abuse these children, they were in a position of trust and took advantage of it, they need hanging if you ask me!!!

Go figure that one lol

A good movie to watch is the "Magdalene Sisters". Very sad on how horrible some nuns were all over the world.

I have seen this movie a couple of times and cried both times. It is a good movie, but just broke my heart.

I think part of the problem is catholic priest and nun's are held in the same regard as saint's and being holy with some people. They are not holy in my view, they sin just as much if not more than the average human. I think a large reason is the feeling of power that comes with it which I think attributes to them wanting to control children.

A priest local to my area who married three of my cousin's was busted with being a pedophile. He wasnt prosecuted that I know of but he was outed in the paper. Most of the people were sad to see him go   Many still had him over to their family's houses including my cousin's! I know were suppose to forgive them, but why would you risk your children's and grandchildren's welfare by having them over! The most horrible thing about it is how kid's feelings and what happened to them is disregarded and they are left feeling dirty like they did something wrong. I will always believe my daughter and stand up for her no matter who it is if someone ever touches her in that way or makes her feel uncomfortable.

I think they will be judged also, as a christian you are suppose to set an example and let your behavior show your values. They are pushing people away from religion since this is what they will see.

I was kicked out of Catholic kinderarten in the early 50's. Not only was I left handed, I asked too many questions. I was left handed due to horrific burns, and unable to actually use my right hand very well. I got my 🤬🤬🤬 beat every day and twice on Sunday I think...plus having my left hand tied down.
It does stay with you...I was always more apologetic for my "wrong-handedness" than for all my scars. Still am...and I'm amost 60.
Almost forgot..I was removed for biting the nun during one of the times she was tying my hand down.

Im going through this with my daughter regarding being left handed. She is actually ambidextrous but everyone around us including my mother and mil is trying to push her to use her right hand. I wont allow it, I have actually yelled at my mother over it. I want her to use whatever hand she is comfortable with. Im right handed but was left handed originally and was made to change. I have horrible pennmanship and I believe it is partly due to it. I am ambidextrous in sports still though, I love to irritate my mom by using my left arm to throw a basketball lol:p

But seriously I feel so bad how so many people are made to feel bad about being left handed. Geez what a way to kill a self esteem! Did any of you alert your parents regarding the abuse you suffered at school? I attended christian schools (baptist and non-denominational) , at one my fourth grade teacher slapped my hands with a ruler for writing a note to my friend. My mom and dad went up there that night and we did not attend there after that. That was their second problem at the school. My mom was getting ready to pull us out anyways since one other student had been spanked that year and she made an appt with the principal to discuss to him that we were not to be spanked ever or she would file charges against the school. Needless to say they weren't sad to see us go;)

My grandma and great aunt were weird about my sister being left handed. I don't get that one at all. they would go behind my moms back and try to train my sister to be right handed.

MILWAUKEE — A 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun pleaded no contest Monday to two counts of indecent behavior with a child for alleged sexual encounters with two male students at a church convent and school where she was principal during the 1960s.
The nun, Norma Giannini, and her attorney left the courthouse without comment after entering the pleas in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
Giannini faces a maximum 10 years on each count when sentenced Feb. 1.
According to the criminal complaint, the two men told authorities they had dozens of sexual encounters with Giannini, including intercourse, while attending St. Patrick's School.
One man said the nun told him in 1965, when he was 13, to open the buttons of her habit, but he was shaking so badly he could not do so. He said she then unbuttoned her clothing and had him touch her breasts, the complaint said.
The first incident was followed by 60 to 80 others, including two involving sexual intercourse, it said.

This sickens me, Dark Shadows. Them poor guys. I was taught by Nuns and can't even begin to fathom the way that effected these guys. Let's see how this follows through.

Unfortunately that can happen, Meow. I'm sorry for your friend's boyfriend's pain.

If these people were allowed to have normal relationships and get married, a lot of this stuff wouldn't happen. I'm not talking about obvious pedophilia, but some of this stuff might not happen. I'm a Catholic and I think to deny people a normal, healthy part of life, romantic feelings, marriage and sex, is just wrong and very damaging.

wow a nun getting a boy to touch her. alot of the nuns at my high school were obviously lesbian. my theory has always been for alot (but not all) of people who went into the convent and priesthood was that it was to hide their sexuality from their families and friends. in a time when people were expected to 'get married and have babies' i guess they could avoid that by becoming priests and nuns. hopefully now when someone does go into that it's for real and not for hiding.

I worked for nuns in a nursing home when I was a teen. I did not last long in that job. I expected that compassion and dignity would be extended to the ones who were in the last years of their lives. I expected that the nuns would see to it that the folks in the care of these nuns would be afforded compassion and dignity. I was wrong in that expectation.

I've always held the same personal theory, Misty. :)

And it isn't going to stop until the Church changes its position on the priesthood and marriage. Thousands of Protestant pastors balance marriage and family with running a church every day.

Ya hit a soft spot with me there, Dark Shadows. The elderly. People from great generations who didn't expect to spend their final days in nursing homes and such. Those Nuns should have to take a "Florence Nightingale Course" before working with the elderly. There are some cool Nuns out there though. Back in our day though, pheeewie. Perhpas they were cool also, but we sure wouldn't have found out about it. People should be as outraged by this case as they are about the Priests.

Nun receives one year in jail

The notes indicate Giannini discussed molesting three other boys in Milwaukee and one in Chicago, where she worked before and after her stint in Wisconsin.

According to a transcript, Piasecki's notes indicated Giannini described an incident with a 14-year-old that included kissing and petting.

I think that is very accurate...fortunately society has changed but there are still some who practice intolerance. I also think that many were pushed into the order by over zealous family....many considered a pious lifestyle a wonderful thing and a great social asset to a family.
Times have changed.

AS for this case it is truly sickening but I think not soo surprising,Really.
