WI - Sylville Smith, 23, fatally shot by Milwaukee PD officer, 13 Aug 2016 *Arrest*

So this area has had several million dollars worth of arson damage done to it since the weekend and police are suppose to just let gatherings of 'protesters' continue in the area. Did these 'protesters' have a permit to gather in this area where millions of dollars of arson has happened in the past few days?
After Dallas I don't blame LE for showing up in riot gear. They don't know if these 'protests' are a set up to get as many police there as possible to kill as many as possible.
It is reported these 'protesters' were doing drugs during their 'peaceful protest'. How many laws do they get to break as long as they call it a 'protest'. To me these were not protesters, but rather a group gathering together to do their drugs possibly before setting more arson fires.
As far as the arrests go for the representative and ACLU person they are not above the law. The police told them to leave. They didn't. They broke the law. 10 were arrested for not leaving when told several time. Without the representative and ACLU person that leaves eight. I would think that the police in their riot gear could handle the situation without their interference.

BBM: I see no problem with people unaffiliated with LE trying to step in and deescalate the situation. These cops were in riot gear, and I'm not saying they shouldn't have been, but cops in riot gear are never going to deescalate things. If a state rep wants to step in and try to diffuse the situation then I say let him try, but he should probably introduce himself to the police beforehand next time.

I just don't understand why people have such a hard time listening to police. If cops show up in riot gear and tell me to get out of there, I'm going to do so. Then, if I felt it was unlawful, I will file a complaint or contact one of the numerous groups that do work in protecting citizens rights. i get the feeling from some of these groups they just want to poke the bear and then cry when the bear takes a swipe at them.

The problem is, state officials and ACLU types usually end up ESCALATING and INCITING rather than helping. I have seen dozens and dozens of livestream protests. Those that come and try to talk and calm things down often end up riling people up instead. If the protesters have an audience right there then they tend to push harder and faster, and don't back down. Having a state official standing alongside them, giving them gum, AND REFUSING ORDERS TO DISPERSE, only emboldens the marchers. It makes them think they can stay too, if the ACLU and State Rep are defying orders.

If nobody believes MSM is being truthful to us, why do we put so much faith into what they report?

If they are not being truthful to us.. why? Who is directing them to lie?

I don't put much faith into what MSM reports as details. MSM usually reports an incident, however IMO, the facts and details need to be check out further. As for whom is directing MSM to 'lie', it would be better explained by which reporter receives the largest audience.

Remember ABC anchorman Frank Reynolds, he along with other major stations reported a death which they latter retracted. I don't think they intentionally lied, however they wanted to be first to report a rumor without checking facts.

Jonathon Brostoff is one of my personal friends. He and ACLU observer Mr. English were arrested near Sherman Park for observing the police tearing down a memorial. He was observing a peaceful protest/memorial service of about 20 people when MPD arrived in riot gear, escalated the situation, and began arresting everyone in sight.

Is this what Mr Brostoff stated? To whom, if not where did the above information come from?

Sounds to me like Brostoff was not arrested:

"After waiting approximately 20 minutes, the crowd was again asked to leave. Some of those present left the area but others refused to leave. MPD began to make arrests," the statement said. "Some of the crowd became disorderly and resistive and were also arrested."

About 10 people were arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting an officer, the statement said.

One of those detained by police was State Rep. Jonathan Brostoff, who said he was passing out gum to protesters and was trying to "de-escalate" the situation.

Brostoff said he was not arrested and was released by police when someone shouted out that he was a state lawmaker.

"I think I would have been arrested if I weren't an elected official," Brostoff said late Tuesday night."

======================================================================

So they were ALL asked to leave, then 20 minuets later they were asked to leave again. I think Brostoff was just adding to the problem if he stayed and handed out gum to protesters. Surely he heard the officers requests for them all to disperse?

Seriously, a state rep is asked to leave an area by LE, but stays and passes out gum. IMO you don't get much more immature. His actions really upset me. What a piece of work.

Maybe "lie" was the wrong wording. But it is becoming quite clear how differing media outlets seem to focus their reporting in alignment with certain political agenda's. IMO, at that point it is no longer media. It is propaganda. And I truly believe MSM is at least partly responsible for the division we are seeing in America.

This is how Rep. Brostoff justifies his actions:
Brostoff said he is trying to set up a meeting with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to discuss his arrest. He said he has a great respect for Milwaukee cops but believes they are too focused on taking punitive not preventive action.

Asked why he was in Sherman Park, which is outside his district, Brostoff said the problems in Sherman Park affect everyone in the city. "Why wouldn't I be there?" he asked. "That's the question."

"I'm a tiny little dude," Brostoff said. "People don't see me as a threat. So my tiny stature helps me in some ways."

Apparently, this politician feels that actively defying the orders of the police, during a "raucous gathering" that threatened to turn into another violent riot, is the very best way an elected leader can demonstrate his great respect for Milwaukee Police, as they work to take preventative action to avoid another violent riot. He responded in person to this disturbance in a district that he does not represent. To refuse the orders of police trying to keep the peace in the midst of "unrest", so he could pass out spearmint gum. (Which apparently has magical anti-riot calming powers. Which brand is that?? His comments about the gum are like a parent trying to bribe a bunch of tantruming 2 year olds to behave, be quiet, and sit still. Doesn't he realize how paternalistic, insulting, and demeaning that sounds??)

And that the respected Milwaukee police officers in riot gear detaining him for a mere 20 min to get control of a crowd situation that was becoming out of control (not arresting him), was simply "too punitive" of a preventative action. Or something. Were the police supposed to hum 🤬🤬🤬 ba yah while passing out M&M's and hugs??

I'm sure *if only* he had been allowed to pass out more gum, everyone would have been singing 🤬🤬🤬 ba yah and holding hands with police officers minutes later. Because he's such a "tiny little dude." Because everyone knows (or should know) that "tiny little dudes" cannot possibly ever be a threat to anyone, and so should never be detained or arrested by police for any reason, when there is "unrest". Do I have this right? And this guy is an elected official??

Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown was arrested on Wednesday night after a police investigation that ended with the Milwaukee County district attorney filing criminal charges, the department said in a statement. Heaggan-Brown, 24, was charged with five counts, including two felony counts of second-degree sexual assault.

[...]

According to the complaint, the man who said he was raped told police Heaggan-Brown had picked him up at the same time that the 18-year-old was shot near the protests. The two men went to a bar, where they “sat and watched television, as coverage of the Sherman Park protests aired,” according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

The following day, police were contacted about the report of an assault involving an officer, even while city officials were attempting to tamp down the simmering rage
in the city sparked by the shooting....

This is disturbing on so many levels.
I think the motive behind the shooting needs to be revisited.

And possibly every arrest he made in the past if this is true:

When they went to the bar, the complaint said the officer had “bragged about being able to do whatever [he] wanted without repercussions.”

Well.

If it's not a bear to begin with, people wouldn't want to poke it, and it wouldn't swipe at them. Nice use of a deadly animal to prove the point that LE is a lot of times the beast people believe them to be. It's apt.

LE needs to be part of the community, not the enforcer 24/7. If you're connected with the community, the community respects you. If you only show up (in riot gear no less) to push people around, well. You're the bear.

(general you, hope that's obvious ;) )

I wholeheartedly disagree with this post for multiple reasons. One, for the manipulation of my words from an expression. Two, Dallas police overall have a good relationship with the community here, and look what happened. And cops have to be the enforcer 24/7 as there is crime 24/7.

Funny how everyone was talking about this case for days. Now we get some "bombshell" news and not a peep. It is being swept under the rug. Crazy. MSM should be all over this! JMO

Sorry, wasn't attempting to twist or manipulate anything, was more of a jumping off point for an opinion.

Everyone still believe the reason for the traffic stop was because of "a suspicious vehicle"?
