I totally, totally agree. HOWEVER, the fact she is once again pregnant, and struggling with the children she has...I can't blame this solely on the economy.

If this is her fault because she is pregnant, then by gum I hope they arrest the father too.

I think that was a different situation. That woman (IIRC) intentionally left the baby alone, she didn't fall asleep. IMHO intent makes a world of difference.

Where did this mother fall asleep? Right there in the bath room? Or in a different room?

I'm sorry, was the father home and putting the kids in the bathtub and I missed it? My point is, it is tragic, it was not on purpose as far as anyone can tell. I will not feel like the economy did this though, when she struggles with 4 kids and is pregnant with number 5. She was tired, she LEFT the kids in the bath. Tragic, not on purpose, still dead children.

Autopsy results pending for East Troy twins
By KEVIN HOFFMAN ( Contact ) Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011

Police have released few other details about the case and said nobody is in custody. Authorities on Friday spent several hours investigating the scene.

The state Department of Children and Families released public notification of the incident Friday, saying the children “allegedly drowned” in the bathtub. It classifies their death as “maltreatment.”

She turned the water on in the tub and went to bed. Her roommate came home and found her asleep in bed, the tub overflowing, and the babies drowned.

The economy is doing terrible things to families these days! I can't even begin to imagine how exhausted she must have been trying to work overnight and take care of 4 little kids and a house too...even ONE child and a job would be a monumental undertaking!! *smh*

Then why have so many children? Now both parents are charged, and according to this article their 6 year old was often taking care of the three younger ones. Yet the woman is pregnant again.

"According to the criminal complaint, Butt's 6-year-old daughter told a Children's Hospital forensic interviewer that she often bathes the three younger children, changes their diapers and gives them bottles."

I would feel some sympathy if she had fallen asleep while watching the babies in the tub, but she put them in there and just left the bathroom. Horrible.

What a shame for those little ones and the children that are going to be left behind while their parents are in jail.

OMG the poor 6 yr old will have to live with what happened for the rest of their life :(

her other young child might have placed the other 11-month-old in the bathtub,

and how messed up that the 6 yr old was responsible for bathing the twins "when they stink".

Who in the heck waits for a child to stink before bathing them????? (and i'm not talking about poopy blow outs LOL)

as to the 6 year old sibling. So sad that this child was thrust into a role where it was her responsibility to bath the infants "when they stink".

Very telling as to what was going on in the way of parenting in this household IMO :(

An East Troy woman who slept while her 11-month-old twins drowned in the bathtub will spend the next year in the Walworth County Jail with permission to leave jail for child care and work duties.

Despite a recommendation from Walworth County District Attorney Phillip Koss to put her in prison, Melody Butt, 27, will be allowed to leave jail to have supervised time with her three remaining children and go to work...

"You don't leave 11-month-old children alone in a tub," Koss said. "She's a nurse, she knew better.
