2 arrested after reports of kids in cages in Monroe County

Two adults have been arrested in Monroe County after authorities received a report of child neglect, including apparent evidence that children were being kept in makeshift cages.

The names of the two people arrested have not been identified, nor has it been revealed how many children were found at the home.

Travis Lanier Headrick, 46, and Amy Michelle Headrick, 39, were charged Monday with nine felony counts, including reckless endangerment, child neglect and false imprisonment.

Court records allege five children were in the house — four adopted and one biological — and that one child was found in a horse trough and another was in a locked cage. According to the records, Amy Headrick told authorities the children were caged to protect themselves.
