Oh, what a kerfuffle in such a huge way.

And in the details, seemingly lost, are two women who may have been raped. What happens to their rights? Where is *their* justice?

It appears that it's lurking in the Ecuadoran embassy...and now, lots of political manouvering and posturing will have to happen before they can even begin to see justice...if ever.

Sigh.

Every single one of his advocates conveniently forget to mention anything about this, AT ALL.

Not an advocate, but also not conveniently forgetting in my case, rather using common sense when looking at the "evidence" and his accusers. And I say that as an actual victim of actual SA.

I'm always sympathetic towards victims of sexual abuse, but that wasn't the case in this situation. Let's be realistic about what members of a country's government will do to silence someone they feel is a threat to exposing problems in their military programs. Sometimes people in a position of power will say or do anything to get their way or silence critics. If you've ever been on the receiving end of such a campaign, you recognize it. JMO

"Julian Assange's flight

lands on US-controlled island Saipan

ahead of his plea hearing

with Wikileaks founder set to plead guilty to a single spy charge

in return for his freedom after 14 years."

Julian Assange: Wikileaks founder lands in Australia a free man

Finally a free man. He paid a high price for reporting the American atrocities during the Iraq war. Among other war crimes, he had released a video from a US military helicopter which showed civilians being killed in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. It seemed to me, that although the world knew of these crimes, the American public was unaware until the videos were published. There had been such a huge campaign of misinformation and propaganda in the major US media outlets that the truth couldn't be heard.

Julian will be 53 years old next week. He now has to repay our govt $777,000 - the cost of bringing him home. His supporters have already raised half of that money, and he has only been home for 24 hours.

The judge who presided over the plea deal said ...... "it was important to recognise that Assange had been jailed for 62 months in a London prison, roughly equivalent to the time US Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning served for disclosing classified information about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to WikiLeaks".

In other words, the judge felt that Julian has served his equivalent time.
