Everything is connected, imho. There is nothing that happens that does not effect everything else. The moon has its path to follow, at some point the universe was set into motion(insert favorite belief system here) and you couldn't stop the ride if you tried.

Meaning, I guess the moon is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Our lives just happen(?)to be at the same time.
I agree with those who say, it is always good to be prepared-it does not hurt to have food, safety supplies and first aid in your home if you are able(some people only have enough for today let alone preparing for a maybe future event).
As with the earthquake in Japan-when it comes to certain events in life there are only so many things you can do in advance. Japan has more earthquakes than just about any other county, as such- they have more safety and early warning systems for earthquakes than any other country. (Source: CNN) Many lives were saved because of these systems but there was nothing that could have been done to stop the earthquake or the tsunami that came after- even if we wanted to. (To stop them might be more dangerous). IMO.
What
can be done, is exactly what has been happening around the world. When people are in need as in Haiti last year and now Japan, people reach out to help. We can be there to save each other. This is a time in history when people caught in the aftermath of a natural disaster can know, as long as it wasn't a global action-soon aircraft and ships with medicine and food will be on its way.
In ancient times there were just as many natural disasters. Depending on the time in history there have been more natural disasters than now. We did not have the global communications that we do today, a whole town could be wiped out in a day by a volcano but those thousands of miles away might never know. Today, we know instantly.
What we can control, is building nuclear power plants. The earthquake is over, the tsunami(s)have subsided and although there are still aftershocks to watch-on the whole the worst would be over. Except for the nuclear power plant on the island of Japan. It is ironic that the country who had the only two nuclear bombs ever used by humanity against humanity(we bomb the earth with our tests all the time)dropped on them, would want a nuclear plant anywhere near them. I should correct myself and say, the Japanese government, because I am sure the people of Japan have many different opinions on the subject. It is not regular citizens that conceive of and execute plans to build a nuclear power plant. :snooty:
Blessings to the people of Japan. I am sorry for what you are going through.
I love the earth. I am not ashamed to say that, its not a political stance or a religious statement. Earth is my home. All the people and places I love are here and it makes sense, common sense- to care for your home. :earth:
