Willamette Week article: One Tipster’s Startling Suspicions, and Frustration

  • #41
Possibly, but I was responding to his statement that LE may not have contacted him because they knew where Terri was on that day.

We don't really know whether they checked this tip out or not. I doubt if they are responding personally to each of the thousands of tips that come in.
It would be pretty surprising if two different redheaded women, driving the same colored cars as Terri and Dede, happened to be involved in Kyron's disappearance. It would also be pretty surprising if Terri and Dede were out executing and burying Kyron on June 9th in some faraway part of Oregon, especially when LE was staying at Terri's house 24/7 at the time.
I think this guy probably saw something, although I'm not sure how he saw all that unless he also pulled down the side road and stopped to watch, but his memory of the whole thing has most likely been influenced by what he has seen reported.

I'll be okay. The locals in Monroe are very tight-knit. I know someone from there.

One thing that is hinky to me about this story though. The guy saw them headed on 99W from Junction City? Well, that's weird. That means they were headed north going to Monroe. 99W comes right down from Portland headed south. Why did they go to Junction City? There isn't an easy way to come from I-5 to Junction City either. You'd either have to take off the Harrisburg exit or the Eugene exit.

If they took off the Harrisburg exit, then they passed the Monroe turn off if they went all the way to Junction City and had to back track over to Monroe.

If they took the Eugene exit, then that added another 30 minutes to get to Monroe.

:waitasec:

Why wouldn't they just come down the 99W to Monroe? Why would they go through Junction City and take the chance someone would see them in yet another town???

DeDe drives a cranberry colored car?

Well, after listening to the scanner in Portland for a few hours for a couple of days, I was REALLY surprised at how often kids are mentioned between the ages of 7-10 - walking alone, walking with possible strangers, etc. I can't imagine the tips they have to wade through w/o a super accurate tipster (describing height, race, weight, clothing colors, etc.).

That map didn't show the Monroe turn off coming from Harrisburg. It is a small road, but it is plainly marked that it heads toward Monroe. There is a yummy hot dog stand there. LOL The area is called Lancaster.

Okay, I'm going to head out. I'll go see my friend who lives in Monroe and see what she knows while I'm out there. If I'm not back in two hours.....

Just kidding Calliope!

Weird story, eh?

White truck=not TH. Not on June 9, unless I've missed something. Cranberry colored vehicle? Whose? Not DDS's. Not MC's. TH's Mustang is red, could someone see that as cranberry?

But on June 9, would she have been out driving around long enough in that Mustang to make that trip? And not have KH mention that later? Unlikely.

They need to check it out because a) the tip might be real and b) another child might have been hurt. Or not.

On the whole, if this is real, IMHO, it leads away from TH. Unless I've made a mistake re: colors of cars/trucks involved.

Just curious how you came to this (bbm above).

After reading the blog link I am having a number of different emotions. I agree with everyone who posted comments questioning why this guy didn't notify authorities the day of this suspicious activity. Certainly, the types of behavior he observed warranted calling LE, even if he had no knowledge of any missing child. I am also wondering if he could have seen the license plate of either of the vehicles involved, and again why not call authorities right then??

A tip is a tip is a tip - who knows - this could be connected to a crime that involves some other child. While it doesn't seem totally probable that Kyron was that little boy, it is a tip that definitely should be checked out. From watching so many cases on Investigative Discovery (love that channel) many times evidence from one crime is found when following up on a tip from another crime. Good grief, I am really getting frustrated that movement is so slow in resolving what happened to Kyron!

I wouldn't say this tip doesn't lead to Terri. In fact, it so much leads to Terri (what has been reported of her in the news) that I think it was completely fabricated to lead to her. It's got the white pickup, the cranberry colored car, two redheaded women, and a random guy -- the whole cast and props of Terri and the two companions who have been identified as being with her after Kyron went missing.

Yeah, I dont buy this story at all.

And the cars were driving erratically and the woman kept pushing the boys' head down while they were driving...

BUT, he did say he didn't put all these things together before. So let's see he notices the truck and the woman pushing the boy's head down. Then he sees them stop and go into the woods with the other people and the shovel. So far none of this strikes him as suspicious or dangerous, because he assumes they are doing something innocent (meeting relatives to dig for worms in the woods?).

Later he hears the gunshot, but again doesn't think anything of it and doesn't even associate it with the people he saw earlier. Maybe someone is hunting or doing target practice or whatever.

He again notices the vehicles, but the reckless driving isn't a surprise, because the truck was driving that way earlier, too.

Then when he hears all these details of the case it all comes together in his head as a potentially related situation. Like when Homer was riding in the back of Wiggum's police car and heard the description of Marge that seemed ridiculous to him until they hit a bump and the various bits fell into place. :-)

Just speculating.

[You will not believe this, but when I read this I was thinking a bit and a line from Wiggum popped into my head, too: "Put out an APB for a male suspect, driving a... car of some sort, heading in the direction of, uh, you know, that place that sells chili.]

DeWitt said the pickup driver got out and took the boy into a heavily wooded area where they were followed by the other two–with the male carrying a shovel he removed from the sedan trunk.

I'm sorry, but this is soooooo creepy! I hate to keep saying, "If I were the one in this situation, I would... bla bla bla" but seriously - two adults leading a boy into the woods carrying a shovel? A single gun shot? And then only after hearing about Kyron did he think this was odd.... I dunno about this guy.

Also I thought DDS drove a pale blue Explorer?

It's kinda sweet though that this farmer called the car color "cranberry" and not just "red" or "maroon" or something.

Sorry, but this sounds like a fabricated story.

It's extremely detailed. So this truck just happened to drive fast behind him, he looks in rear view mirror (wow he must have been looking in his rear view mirror a long time to see the driver pushing a childs' head down, his head popping up again AND notice hair color, glasses..etc., surprised he didn't get in an accident), sees the truck meet with another car, he notices the color of the car (and cranberry is pretty specific must I add), the 3 people, the other womans' hair color and body type, the baseball cap on the dude, the dude grabbin' a shovel from his car and these people walking in a "wooded" area.. (is he still looking in his rear view mirror? did traffic stop in order for him to see all this?) AND after that he just happened to stop at a gas station after all of this to get directions and heard a gun shot at that same time (umm didja call the police? I sure would have at that point and did anyone else hear the gun shot?) Then, continued driving, just happened to stop at a restroom, continued driving again and at the same time saw the cars, again, except this time they were leaving and almost got in an accident? And because he was right there in the action of the accident, happened to see that there could be damage on the front of the truck and red (or wait cranberry hehe) paint marks? Hmmm...

Maybe this guy has been a little isolated for too long?

Yea, not buying it. Phony baloney imo.

BUT even though, I agree, LE should check it out.

Exactly, anybody in their right mind would have called 911.

By my reading, he DID report it to someone:

Quote:
"He also said he reported the incident to a “Eugene Deputy” (not sure if Eugene PD or Lane County Sheriff) shortly thereafter, but before he realized the possible significance of what he saw."

  • #56
Let me guess - he saw these cars twice, but didn't get even a partial license number on either one, right?

I'm not ruling this out, just wondering why he didn't call 911 right then and there if he thought a child was in danger.

I don't know what to think about this, but I'm definitely interested to hear more. Just seems a little hokey that he puts these three people who are being focused on in the media and their two vehicles together like this. But, of course, you never know, so hopefully it's being followed up on now!

ETA: I'd also have to seriously wonder why, on June 9th, when this man witnessed three adults taking a boy into the woods with a shovel and then hearing a gunshot, did he not report that immediately? Whether he knew of Kyron or not, it's certainly suspicious, even without the gunshot.

YellowSubmarine, i so agree with all you said above. i certainly want to hear more about this and if its really true, then i do want to know why the man did not call 911 immediately. seriously, missing child or no missing child, that scenario is absolutely something that should be reported. jmo, imo, mho and all that jazz :)

Just curious how you came to this (bbm above).

Well in all the discussion about why TH took the truck on June 4, it's been stated that she nomally drives her Mustang; KH the truck. And the fact of her taking the truck that day and not bringing the exhibit home has been dissected. So clearly, who has the white truck and when and why has become important.

And, at that time, LE was supposedly at their house a lot, right? (I'm summarizing a bit). Also, during all the chaos, if TH takes off for what sounds like at least four hours, I think someone would have raised that point by now and say "hey! and not only that, but man, she was somewhere for 4 hours on June 9."

I checked the timeline before I made my post, but didn't find (or overlooked) at what point the truck was towed from the house.

So, either TH routinely uses the truck when she feels like it, in which case her use of it on June 4 isn't a big deal, or else KH predominantly uses the truck, which makes it less likely that she used it on June 9. And given the chaos, the media scrutiny, the LE being around, the searches, the chance that TH took of for so long on June 9 doesn't just seem logical.

Now, if someone wants to ask where, say, MC was at that time on June 9, and whether he or any of his associates have access to a white truck, that's fine by me. In fact, I wish LE would ask just that.

ETA: my bad. I thought the quote function would pick up what Jules had quoted from me, and what was BBM'd, but it didn't. Here's the link, it's post # 47 on this page: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110927&page=2

As crazy as is sounds - there are still a few of us who don't own cell phones - and pay phones are becoming a bit scarce. The piece does say he called and told a deputy sometime "shortly" thereafter - which might well have been as soon as he got home.
