A recently released movie is bringing new attention to the case of a serial killer from Hernando County.

The movie, “The Man in the White Van,” profiles the case of real-life serial killer Billy Mansfield Jr. In 2020 Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies searched Mansfield’s property in Spring Hill and found several sets of remains.

Mansfield was eventually convicted of killing 15-year-old Elaine Zeigler, 16-year-old Theresa Fillingim, 21-year-old Sandra Jean Graham and 29-year-old René Saling in California. The remains of a 13-year-old girl were also found in Hernando County and associated with Mansfield’s crimes.

I have to watch this. Cynthia Gooding and Teresa Alfonso were reportedly seen being picked up by someone in a white or yellowish van in September of 1974. Billy Jr. would have been 18 I believe. I wonder about the Jane Doe found in 1981 and the remains found in 2020. Who were they?
