Sounds like a horrible accident with a terrible ending. I usually have a strong stomach for details but I don't think I want to know about this one.

Ugh. I hadn't seen that blondie in Spokane. Sounds like a very probable way for something like this to happen. Not sure I want more details either, hiandmighty
RIP, Brooke.
I looked around facebook a bit and was really touched by her group of friends and their love for her. You always hear about girls being so catty, it was sweet to see how many people changed their profile photos to smiling ones with Brooke. My thoughts & prayers are with her friends and family.

It still doesn't make sense to me. Reaching INTO a dumbwaiter isn't going to put you "entirely inside" it.

Always: Suppose the top part of her body is trapped into the dumbwater. Suppose there are a few inches of space between the dumbwater and outer shaft. Suppose the dumbwater keeps moving. It is possible the dumbwater is pulling the body into the dumbwater--with part of the body inside the place where the food goes--and part of the body above or below.

So the dumbwaiters don't have an "off" switch? If there is a jam it still keeps on going? Seems very dangerous to me.

You're correct. Police have released more information. Sadly, Brooke died of crushing injuries to her head, which was completely inside the elevator/dumbwaiter after, they say, she must have pushed the button for it to go down to the first floor. As the top edge of the elevator box met the bottom sill, her head was trapped. The cook on the first floor looked towards the dumbwaiter as it arrived, looking for dirty dishes, and instead found Brooke. :(

There were 18 people up on the second floor where she was working, but the area by the dumbwaiter (which has no doors) cannot be seen from the dining area. Police are convinced Brooke must have pushed to button to make the lift descend, and that there is no crime involved.

I'm wondering if she tried to place something in the lift at the last minute, or dropped something and wanted to pick it up? If it was empty though, I can't understand why she would have put her head in it, or be sending it down to the kitchen anyhow?

'Based on autopsy results, polices said Baures’ head was located almost entirely inside the cab of the elevator, canted slightly to her right, as the cab descended. When the cab passed the sill of the second floor access, she then suffered fatal crushing injuries to her brainstem and cerebellum.

No one witnessed the incident or heard any vocalization, police said. Attendees did however hear unusual noises coming from the elevator and moments later the cook was seen rushing toward the second floor access after his discovery on the first floor.'

Maybe the dumb waiter wasn't working that well and she stuck her head in to see where it was in its descent or arrival. Some of my wealthy relatives, that lived in old mansions, had dumb waiters. I can see that happening. We werent allowed to touch them when we were kids. Only the staff.

Such a shame and I am so sorry for her family and friends. And co workers too.

There is a video called something like "dumb waitress gets caught in dumbwaiter" from Russia. She survived but it explained what probably happened.
