Seems to me that he was dressed and masked in a manner that deliberately hid his appearance. The early hour of the attack and his attire lead me to believe it was definitely targeted, the viciousness seems to be a personal attack. I wonder if the victim had recently split from a partner.

from the link. I am going to guess an ex or stalker. Sounds as if LE MAY have an inkling who their suspect is. Poor woman, that beating was brutal.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Judge Ashe would have lowered his bail to $75,000 unsecured. This attack was horrific, particularly on a pregnant woman.
