Woman Kicked Off Bus For Reading Bible Out Loud To Her Kids!

  • #61
For one thing: People on the bus `cannot ignore`the loud `bible passages. It is not like they `have to get off the `bus` pay again, and wait for another bus, just to get away from a `women`who feels she has the right to `spread`the word of her own religion, when people on the bus, may not entertain her religious beliefs.

Also the excuse`of reading the bible to children is just that. This is a `round about way`of ensuring that everyone on the bus is subjected to `your version`of the bible and your religion.

Sorry, but this innocent `gesture`is not so innocent in my opinion.

I totally agree CyberLaw, this woman has found an indirect way to proseletize (sp?) to a captive audience. It would nauseate me  and I would get off the bus.

I don't know about this. You could be right. But I've known people who truly did read the bible to their children for entertainment.....I'd need to know more about this lady to decide. And I'd need to know if passengers complained or if the bus driver just reacted to her on his own.

If the bus driver reacted on her own, she'd have to be able to hear the reading all the way from the back of the bus. Busses are pretty noisy - if the driver could hear it, at all, she was incredibly loud.

For all of the people who `defend`this women because after all she is a Christian women, only reading the bible to her kids on the bus in the `name of the Lord`` I would like to comment.

If a Jewish person, a Muslim man and or family were reading their `religious`` texts on the bus, loud enough for everyone to hear, would you still defend the `right`to read your `bible`on the bus or does the `good ole`double standard apply.

How about the bus is a public place, the public if wanting to worship and read the bible can do so without `annoying`anyone else on the public bus`and submitting other to their religious views.

Hey, what if I went to a `Christian`area and rode the bus and proclaimed to read a book out loud that denies God, would everyone on that bus `be held` hostage(in essence, not reality)regarding my lack of religious beliefs and should they then `not become offended and annoyed`because my `book`is my bible and not theirs.

The bus is a public place, amongst the public, paid for by the public for the public. A bus is not a place to `voice`directly or indirectly your own private religious view and subject the public to those views. That can be done in a private place, like a Church, home, bible study classes, etc where the bible is discussed in private amongst like minded people.

CL, while I totally agree with you about this woman, I have to respond that I am frequently in public places and forced to listen to loud music and conversation laced with profanity and offensive subject matter. I don't ever recall anyone being evicted from those places for it. Perhaps it is an enforcement issue, but I don't see how this is any worse than having to listen to a lot of rap or heavy metal, or even loud conversations where every other word is f*** this or f*** that.

It doesn't have to do with religion. It has to do with respect for other people.
