A Charlotte woman hired three homeless men to dig up her husbands grave Sunday afternoon in Huntersville, but there was one major problem: she did not have the right grave.
Police said that Lovell Floyd was responsible for $1,100 worth of damage to someone elses gravesite in Caldwell Cemetery, which is located on Beatties Ford Road.
We are very, very hopeful that the police and the (district attorney) will pursue this so that this woman will be stopped, said Bonita Caldwell, the cemeterys owner. No one should ever be allowed to do what she did yesterday, at any cemetery.
According to police reports, Floyds husband committed suicide in 2001. His mother bought him the plot and did not want its location to be revealed. Floyd, trying to find out that information, eventually took Caldwell to court. But she was unsuccessful.
We could not release that information because the lot owner, the deceased mother, has requested that that information not be released to the public, Caldwell said Monday. And we have to honor those wishes.
After a judge threw out the case, Floyd decided to look for herself.
