World's oldest new mom dies, leaves twin toddlers

I thought the same until I read that she falsified documents from Spain to give to the doctor's office. She went to quite elaborate lengths to lie!

I agree,

She lied about her age to have the procedure. She put not only her own life at risk, but that of any potential children in utero and/or childbirth. I still question whether the clinic doctor's did the right thing by believing (maybe) that she was really 55 years old.

It is sad that she passed away, and the children will not remember their mother. Either way, two years later we learn the outcome, and it is unfortunate. Prayers that the family will take good care of the twins.

I don't think she was selfish. Delusional and short-sighted perhaps, but I'm sure she had the best of intentions. And the doctors checked the documents and would have refused her had they not been falsified documents. No one to blame, really. Just a couple of orphans that need a new home now.

I believe she was selfish. No concern except of herself. Why no be a fostermom?

I feel very sorry for these two little boys. It's sad that their mother was so selfish, and possibly lonely. I hope that they are raised by people who love them, and that they can enjoy having in their lives for a very long time.

Regardless of why she did it, two small children have lost their mommy. When all the dust settles, that fact remains.

I know the doctors said no, but I wonder if the procedures she went through could have contributed to her cancer? Such a sad story.

That's what I wondered with all the estrogen and hormones, plus the stress on her body.

I can understand her desire to have a baby, she spent most of her years taking care of her mother and suddenly found herself alone, but I really can't understand why she felt she needed to have children this way. The eggs were not her own and there was no husband to provide sperm, why not try to adopt an older child instead of going through all this? Her mother lived a very long life, however nothing said about her father so I wonder how long he lived?
One of my grandmothers lived to be over 100, however none of her children did, my father (her son) died in his 70's and I really do not have any expectation of living that long myself just because she did.
A maternal instinct is wonderful but I wish she had turned that focus on children who were already in need. I hope the children will be cared for and loved, somewhere there may be a woman 40-50 years old who could give them the home they need, but a woman in her mid 60's is just to old Imo.

While the idea of adopting children who are already here, who are in need of parents is a wonderful way to make a family, I highly doubt she would be found eligible at her age. And I think any agency would be a lot more careful of accepting her documentation.

Doctors offices are not detectives offices, they are not in the habit of checking out patients statements in regards to age, income or marital status.

An adoption agency on the other hand must verify any information a prospective parent gives them, GOD forbid they give a child to a convicted abuser RSO or any number of other possibilities, I am assuming they check out. Most importantly you are talking about a child who already has no parents, they are looking for forever families and would be rightly concerned about putting children in a position of becoming parent-less again at an early age. Especially in a single parent family.

I believe they would also hesitate about even putting an older child into this situation worrying about the "parents" ability to deal with teenagers while they themselves are in their 70's.

The children will be raised by their GodFather, who is the adult nephew of their mother. One of her brothers sold the story of her death to a British paper to give the boys a little extra cash for their upbringing.

This was all in the story at the original post.

She was diagnosed shortly after giving birth, and she had hoped that she would live to see them grown but said she wasn't sorry for her delayed motherhood. Her circumstances had never allowed her to get pregnant while she was younger. If she lived as long as her mother had, which was what she thought would happen, she believed she could live long enough to be a grandmother. So very sad that wasn't the way it ended.

We need to remember the advances in the last 10 years. Very possibly ten years prior to her giving birth she wouldn't have been able to get pregnant. She still would have needed donated eggs and sperm.

I know many times there are things that we could do, but just because we can doesn't mean we should. I don't know if I would agree with that this time.

I believe the fact that she conceived and carried the babies to term speaks well about her general health at the time she conceived. It's a horrible tragedy that she developed cancer but that can happen to any of us at any age.

While I highly doubt I would ever considered going the route she took, I can honestly say I understand why she did. I don't find her to be anymore selfish than anyone else who goes through what she did in order to have a baby.

Bold is mine. She was in menopause for 18 years!!! No one should try to get pregnant after being in menopause for 18 years - my lord how could they not question her age.??? I guess she thought she would make money and be famous by having these kids.

She devoted her later life to taking care of her mother. She said that she wanted children and decided to have them the way that she did. I can understand that but at her age it could be dangerous but thank God they all made it through the pregnancy.

I don't know how she kept up with two active little boys. I watch my 1 1/2 yr old great granddaughter for 8 hours and I am dead tired. She is one active little girl. I am this lady's age when she had the twins!

She mentioned that the twins would be fine with their godfather/guardian so I gather she had everything arranged just in case.
