Hinckley's mother is 90 years old. How much longer will she live? Yes, I know we can't know how long she will survive, but it's more than likely that her son will outlive her. What happens then? Who will supervise the would-be assassin? Is he her sole heir? Will JH eventually live independently with no one monitoring his whereabouts? Hinckley should not be released to the custody of his 90-year-old mother. Leopards can't change their spots. :moo:

Thanks to our "insanity" laws, he is going to be out and about. And he isn't the only one.

When doctors declare formerly insane person "cured"- this person, no matter what horrific crime they committed, could be let out. And they are not even considered guilty of anything, as they were supposedly insane.

he's not going to jail cause he was found 'not guilty' by reason of insanity, which is as good as an acquital once they find you are 'sane' (see bobbit, lorena)

Washington — The man who shot President Ronald Reagan is scheduled to leave a Washington mental hospital for good on Saturday, more than 35 years after the shooting. A federal judge ruled in late July that the 61-year-old John Hinckley Jr. is not a danger to himself or the public and can live full-time at his mother’s home in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Hinckley had already been visiting Williamsburg for long stretches at a time and preparing for the full-time transition. He’ll have to follow a lot of rules while in Williamsburg, but his longtime lawyer Barry Levine says he thinks Hinckley will be a “citizen about whom we can all be proud.”

Its a good informative article, imo, and this stood out to me:

Perhaps his case can serve as a positive example for mental health care in this country. It is obvious that we are desperately in need of better solutions to dealing with our mentally ill.

John Hinckley Jr. leaves DC mental hospital for Virginia

The man who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan has been released from a Washington mental hospital for good, more than 35 years after the shooting.

A spokeswoman for the District of Columbia's Department of Mental Health said early Saturday that all patients scheduled to leave St. Elizabeths Hospital had been discharged. Hinckley was among those scheduled for discharge.

An Associated Press reporter saw a hired car pull into the driveway of the Hinckley home at around 2:30 p.m.
