Alyssa Smith, a 25-year-old who went missing almost three years ago, is one of two unidentified remains that the commission has been able to identify.

“At what point do you stop looking, and once the remains are found, do you stop looking for answers?” Emily Smith, Alyssa Smith’s sister, said.

“I feel like to waiting three years to get answers is substantial … Three years is a really long time,” Emily Smith said. “You always hold out hope until you get a little bit of concrete evidence, and then you have closure for whether they’re alive or not, but we don’t really have closure yet for what actually happened.”

That seems inexcusable. She was found within months of being reported missing, one county over, and it took 2 years to ID. There aren't THAT many cold cases in Kanawha and Boone Counties to compare to.
