Previous history from 2009:

http://www.wsaz.com/home/headlines/58546907.html

Roach escaped the jail August 16 by prying the lock off an outside door and going over a fence...

Roach was being held in the Middleport Jail on aggravated menacing and fleeing charges.

He was also wanted on charges in West Virginia.

From 2007:

http://www.wsaz.com/news/headlines/5541491.html

A police officer was trying to pull over Ernest Roach after a driver called officers about the man's driving. Police tried to stop Roach on Jackson Avenue, but instead of stopping for the officer, he led police on a chase onto Jericho Road and Route 2. The chase ended when Roach crashed into a police cruiser on Route 2.

Another case where the perp should've been safely stashed behind bars long ago. If only...

Roach had been a person of interest since the middle of last week, according to Cpl. Brian Humphreys, with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department.

Kanawha deputies stopped Roach for questioning on Wednesday then obtained a federal felony warrant for his arrest on charges related to Brown’s disappearance. Roach was taken into custody on those charges after being stopped by an Ohio State Trooper on Saturday morning, according to Wood.

Brown’s body was found while Roach was in custody. He is being held by U.S. marshals in South Central Regional Jail in Charleston but will face the murder charge in Ohio.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Man Faces Charges In Connection To Body Found In Ohio
Updated: Monday, September 1, 2014

Sheriff Keith Wood of the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office said they are charging a man with the murder of a body that was found in Ohio.
Wood said Ernest Roach, 36, will be facing murder charges, amongst other charges, Tuesday morning.
Roach is in custody at South Central Regional Jail on other charges.
The body, believed to be that of a missing Kanawha County teenager, was found in Meigs County, Ohio.

Imprisonment Status: Federal Inmate

Wow! Big One, Roselvr! Thanks for being so quick with the news.

And who is this guy? We'll find out soon enuff, I guess. I hope it's all solid as a rock.

Feeling a bit better about this, but it surely doesn't bring her back...

Earlier I had posted that considering it hardly took hours for her to not only have been found, but her parents told AND her mom posting on FB it was her, it seemed like it sure could mean it was very apparently her. (Though obviously officially they waited several days to confirm it was actually Ericka)

Now knowing the timeline, I wonder if she had actually be alive until more recently? Like maybe even once he was stopped initially on Wednesday?

And how odd that they got the warrant Friday, and he was arrested Saturday morning AND she was found (by non-LE folk) Saturday morning. The timing on that is...quite something.

Also, since he reportedly confessed to having killed her once arrested, that's also interesting since at that point - based on this timeline (that has little wiggle room given other details) she wasn't even found at that point, though was shortly after.

Must have been some compelling evidence he didn't think he could get out of by denying...

This, like so many of the other teens who appear to have left voluntarily with what they surely thought was someone else, seems like repeated confirmation of how many creeps preying on young kids online are clearly using images of someone else because you know they're not going to woo them as they really look.

I am having that very same thought, what if he killed her after being questioned? I looked at his FB page, and his new profile pics were posted on Wednesday also. He looks very red in them, as if he had perhaps been out on the river? Those thoughts just make me feel even angrier.

Taking into consideration the stretch of riverbank she was found on, it is nothing short of a miracle that she was found.

My heart breaks for her parents. LE totally failed them. Really hope they find a good attorney.
His profile pic was uploaded Sunday 24th 9:45pm. I need to stay off of his profile.
Praying for his son who has to live with this for the rest of his life.

Makes sense. It could also be coupled with a very convincing picture the alleged perp is painting about his having either lost a daughter and would really like for her to help him get over it -- a nice room, car, good school, money, etc., -- or that he has a younger daughter who could really use a "big sister" like her, how he knows from their emails, etc., that she's just what his little family needs w/all kinds of other attractions. He could have really pitched a wonderful new life for her, and she was willing to "give it a try," of course she would be free to go back home anytime. Grrrrrr.

All humans are willing to hear what we want to hear... especially a somewhat unhappy (was she??) or bored (was she??) or depressed (was she??) young immature (was she??) girl with a dream.

ETA: And Craigslist scares me to death. I haven't looked at it for a couple of years. There are bad folks everywhere, but IMO the ratio of good-to-bad is below normal. I'm betting that he hung out on there frequently.

Oh, how horribly unfortunate and tragic for that little girl, and her parents must be feeling lower than low. <shiver>

I'm sorry, Rose. I just report what I find.

Did they really have to print that info? She is and will always be a minor.

Yes she was a minor and my heart goes out to her family but GOD HELP US let this be a lesson to girls everywhere. Not that I think my own teens would ever do this (and I'm sure her parents didn't either) but I'm going to have my 16, 15 and 14 yr old teens read this story tonight. Parents NEED to know what is going on via the internet and more importantly kids need to know what kind of genuine perverts are out there ready, willing and able to take advantage of their really bad choices.

As much as it reeks of victim blaming, Ericka is dead and cannot be saved. Perhaps this will cause other parents to keep a closer eye on their teens' technological footprint. If it saves some other teen from a similar fate, I think it is worth it.

"What's so concerning to me about this, as a father and as a prosecutor, is what I see as an unfortunately common occurrence -- young girls hooking up with who they believe to be individuals around their same age online or through outlets like Craigslist," said Booth Goodwin, U.S. Attorney for West Virginia's Southern District.

"People need to know this. Parents need to talk to their kids about the very real dangers facing them online. It can be a wonderful and very beneficial place, but they need to be talking about the very real dangers."

It doesn't reek of victim-blaming to me at all. It simply explains how they initially met. And to me it SCREAMS a warning sign for every teenager out there. I have no question if Ericka could speak to a high school gym full of teens right this very minute, she'd tell them "don't ever do this". She didn't deserve this, but she also didn't realize how many adult monsters there are out there eager to take advantage of naive teenage girls.
