That's from February 2007 :D

[Which I only finally realized when I was trying to figure out how a Thursday chase fit in with no one having been able to find him until Saturday and realized it couldn't fit with the timeline. LOL ]

Thanks gotta love our news,,on same page as todays news ,,,oh well he
always was a problem then ,,,

i believe I read where they think she died around the 10th also... Trying to find it again.

  • #143
What??? OMG...she's only 16!! How long did she have the Craigslist post?? They interviewed several people who had contact with her....what kind of contact?? She's only 16!! Why are these kinds of "ads" allowed on Craigslist? Isn't it illegal??
Sorry....maybe I'm the naive one. I can't believe a young girl would think this activity was safe or ok! God Bless her heart....something must have been terribly wrong in her life. Right?

:giggle: I actually scrolled up a few times once I could NOT make that fit into the other timeline (given the other info we had about Thursday - and totally just going off the Thursday mention in the chase article) and kept seeing the current article also off to the side and so kept convincing myself it HAD to all fit somehow (though I could NOT come up with a way to make it fit! ha)

Finally just before I posted what I had laid out trying to make it fit to see if anyone could find a way around what I couldn't, then I look back at the top and realized it was old.

TOTALLY poor on their part putting it where it was linking with current events and NOT making it more clear that it was so old!

Like you said, there's no doubt he's been trouble for awhile, especially if he was trying to get away from what sounds like it would have really been 'just' a traffic violation until he turned into into a failure to yield (it sounds like) and then pursuit and then the crash.

Other than maybe half a dozen or so that have ended up being a foreigner who didn't know traffic rule type things (or protocol with LE) of the thousands of failure to yields and/or pursuits that I listen to, I'm not sure I can recall more than another half dozen or so when the person not yielding or turning it into a pursuit wasn't doing so because they knew they were either wanted for something else or going to get busted for additional things. Of course it's hard not to laugh when you wonder why they don't realize they're only going to add more charges to their 'sheet' when they don't stop. :notgood:

I bet there's even more on him than just that chase/crash! He's clearly quite a 'prize' :jail:

Not long ago someone suggested to me (when I had something for sale) to put it on Craigslist. I never use it, have never used it, and have never (until then) gone there to look around. Once I did? I thought "holy CROW?! how is this carp even legal???" I don't think it is. Legal, I mean. I suspect they just leave the garbage up until/unless someone complains or reports it. Oddly enough though, I seem to recall a few years ago (and I'd forgotten about it until I saw the content - with pics - barf) that they were sued or forced legally or some such thing, to remove their "adult" category. It may not have been Craigslist though, it might have been another site similar.

Needless to say, I did not list my item for sale on that site. I have no doubt there are areas of the site that are totally legit, but I wasn't about to take the chance, considering the uber-sketchy ads I saw in *other* areas. I just wanted no connection at all, to the site.

I think the related thread is down in the basement somewhere still, but we had another very recent one involving a teen, sex for money, and Craigslist in Michigan.

Brooke Slocum an 18 yr old (I believe very newly 18 yr old) who was 8 months pregnant had also solicited sex for money on CL with her BF.

The BF was killed by the 30 yr old male they met with and he was beheaded beheaded (his head still hasn't been found). Brooke was held captive for a few days and then killed hours before the suspect then tried to flea with her body in his car and ultimately got caught and killed himself in the car in a standoff with police. She was found dead in the trunk (and it was too late to save her baby, a girl they were naming Audi).

Her family had no idea what she was involved in on CL until after she was killed.

They DID know she had gotten into online stuff that was putting her in danger (which they include the reference to her 25 yr old BF the same way, despite her being 17) but in MI she was considered an adult at 17 so they were limited in what they could do.

They're wanting to use her death as a warning to parents about the dangers out there online and not to think it can't happen to them or their kids.

"Yes, Brooke had made previous mistakes within the world that is online, including those that led to her involvement (with Charles Oppenneer - my add: the BF) in this situation," Knepper said. "Yes, the family tried to curtail, inform, protect and advise against the evils that this tragedy has brought forward.

"But God gave each of us free will, and that is something that no one can control. The secret part of Brooke's life that none of us knew about is a testament to that."

A question I have is if any of the "others" will be charged with trafficking?
Really hate that they're putting all this out there like rubbing salt in her parents wounds.

Knowing what really went on could actually empower other families and young women like her to avoid this fate IMO.

It is sad and we would rather not acknowledge it, but if it is the truth and if it could help raise awareness then no, I do not think it serves merely to rub salt in their wounds. That implies some salacious or vindictive motive on the part of LE and MSM and that is not the case.

Ericka's parents were dealing with her emotional issues, it seems and may have had some idea that something like this was going on. There needs to be some help and awareness of what exactly parents are facing today. If we ignore it and bury it, then what.

The age of consent for sexual activity in West Virginia is 16. IMO her parents are up against a wall re; her privacy and her rights.

I would not doubt that LE checked with them before releasing any information.

Releasing this information may actually be the parents' idea. Their daughter is dead. It sounds like LE and the family has suspected that from the very beginning. This may be her parents' way of dealing with her death by using it to inform other people and hopefully save other young women. Mothers Against Drunk Driving was founded by the mother of a child who was killed by a drunk driver a mere 4 days after that child was killed. Some people grieve in private, some people grieve through activism.

Also, there is an Erika Brown missing from Philly. That may have lead to some of the initial spelling confusion early on.

She has not been laid to rest yet. Her parents are not entitled to death benefits from the Crime Victims Fund in WV because she was killed in Ohio. I believe they are working through red tape in 2 states trying to find help to bury their daughter. I personally have not seen a statement from them concerning the information being released; but I have seen a lot of nasty comments being made that would not be made had LE waited until the parents lay her to rest. As a parent myself; it is ripping my heart out; especially since they appeared to do nothing the whole time she was missing. The parents have been on social media begging people to help find their daughter because LE and the FBI wouldn't do anything except to say they were interfering with the investigation. I feel there is a time & place for everything; right now is not the time to do it. They could have released some info related to the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 that killed her & left it at that.

What if he gets off?

Parents...... please check with who your kids are talking to online, make sure you know what sites they are on, children can be so private and thats a dangerous place to be, I don't want any other family to have to go thru the pain my wife and me are going thru. Please hug your children tonight and tell them what they mean to you, I just I had the opportunity to hug and tell Ericka how much she ment to me one more time.

First, I do not think he will get off. Ohio has charged him with 1st degree murder, and he has confessed. My guess, and it is just that...a guess, is that he confessed in exchange for the DP to taken off the table once he found out he would face charges in Ohio for the murder, instead of in WV where there is no DP.

My heart also breaks for her family. They are going through something no parent should have to. I agree that the entire craigslist information should not have been released, at least until her trial. It does not change the facts, and those are he killed a child. Muddying up her name, does not change or justify his actions. It also breaks my heart that her family are having so much trouble raising the money to bury her. I wish they'd make a post in their group asking people for help, but so far they have not.

As to the date of her death, I would guess he watched her body sink. So how long after death is it before the body fills with gases and rises again? Add to that the water rising, and then receding, which it had to do for that block to be stuck in the mud, and for her body to be on the river bank. I think her physical description has a lot to do with the assumptions right away that it was her. She was 5'10' and 100 pds, plus her long blonde hair. For the family to be notified as quickly as they were, that indicates to me that she still had to be recognizable. ( I could be wrong, they may have based it off her height and hair) I am anxious for them to release the motive the accused gave for killing this child. I'm also curious as to the cause of death.

I think, and this is JMOO, the police released all the information because so many people were accusing them of not doing anything to try to save her. As much as I'd like to agree with that, I feel that in this case they actually were working hard and making all attempts to save her. It is hard to tell how many pedophiles answered her ad. I am not saying or even implying she had sex with everyone who answered her ad, but the police had to track them all down. They obtained a warrant as soon as he ran, and they conducted a very active search for him. I am sure the parents will never feel as if LE did enough, then again, I am not sure any parent ever feels as if enough was done when a child is not found safe. I was very impressed by the fathers plea to other parents.

Craigslist is no place for a child. It is not even a place that is safe for an adult. Doesn't anybody remember the Craigslist killer? How many people have to die from their ads, before somebody shuts them down. Below are only a few of the reasons why Craigslist should not be allowed to operate any longer. Kids like Ericka, are another reason.

I hope it's ok to say this, in no way do I intend to victim blame, but I wonder if this gal had a substance abuse problem? The 'needing money and will do anything' is concerning.

A man who faces charges in the murder of a Cross Lanes teen waived his preliminary hearing on the federal sex charges related to the case, meaning those will be bound over to a grand jury.

Roach also waived a detention hearing set for Thursday, where prosecutors planned to argue he should remain in jail without bond.

for some reason this lyrics from nick cave's "the kindness of strangers" keep going on my mind when i read about ericka:

So mothers keep your girls at home
Don't let them journey all alone
Tell them this world is full of danger
And to shun the company of strangers

i have a DD just a year younger than her, she is travelling as an exchange student in the USA, and i cannot even imagine the pain her family must be feeling, i can see her again, they can't.

to the 🤬🤬🤬, why kill her? she was only 16 with a future in front of her!

i hope you are at peace ericka, i wish i could take the pain and the fear away but, wherever you are, you are safe now

Prosecutors have moved to dismiss a federal charge in West Virginia Tuesday against a man accused in the slaying of a Cross Lanes teenager to speed up the alleged murder case against him in Ohio.

Ernest Roach, 46, of Racine, is charged with murder in Meigs County, Ohio, in the death of Erica Brown. Roach was also charged by criminal complaint in Charleston with crossing state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct. He had not been indicted.

A magistrate judge will decide whether to allow that charge to be dropped without prejudice, meaning it can be refiled.
