WV WV - Gretchen Fleming, 27, Vienna, Dec 2022 *POI in 2023*

One Year Later

A living nightmare. The language they use to speak of Gretchen feels like they’ve accepted that she probably isn’t alive, but are holding on to that single thread of hope.

Am I alone in thinking the police know who’s responsible but don’t have the evidence to bring charges?
You are not alone - they get one bite at the apple, sadly that means the family suffers daily :(

I’ve been out to late night bars where I’ve realized I’ve left my phone or wallet/debit/credit card in a cab or prior bar. You will usually announce this to the people you are with. Does anyone think the creepy POI used this as an excuse to get Gretchen in the car ? I’ll take you to get your things. Maybe Gretchen casually mentioned I don’t have money or my phone and this POI used this as a crime of opportunity? Hope the Disappeared episode will bring new witnesses or information to light.
That was my thought! Ex-cop would maybe make her feel safer if he offered to help, too. I could totally see it.

Another instance where the cops know what happened and who did it, but don’t have what they need to prove it beyond reasonable doubt. Gretchen’s grandma (the one she was living with when she disappeared) died not too long ago too.
Agree, I hate cases like this, its so glaringly obvious who disappeared her. Sad her Grandmother passed away.

FBI searches ex-officer's previous home....

WCHS News Article

So almost two years later they search the house a second time? Wonder what prompted that? He no longer lives there.

I envision something like pulling up floorboards, soil tests, maybe jackhammering a concrete slab. Hope whatever the reason, it’s fruitful.
