Skeletal remains found in Summers Co. identified


Authorities with the West Virginia State Police say the remains are those of Cathy Jo McCoy, who was last seen on 3rd Avenue in Hinton in 2004.

She was missing & discovery as skeletal remains in same town. How come they didn't check out the woods & mountains from there as search for her?

Okay... this is obviously the same woman but DLC is variously reported as 2004, 2000 and (in another thread and the missing persons' poster) as 1991.

It may well be that she wasn't reported missing for 13 years after she was actually last seen, meaning that you can't really fault the authorities for not finding her remains immediately if they'd been in the woods for 12 years already when she was reported.

Some sloppy reporting going on though.

She disappeared in June 2000. "(She) Really wasn't properly reported (missing) to the authorities, for a lot of reasons that we just can't go into at this time but will surface later, really wasn't properly reported as a missing person for approximately three years," Captain Cahill says.

Law enforcement officers have been working to locate McCoy since 2004.
