I’ve been checking every day to see if John or Bryn have been removed from namus. It must be one of the two, right?

John Lawson Magruder was reported missing on July 27, 2022. He was believed to have been in the Coopers Rock area. After 1,000 manhours were spent searching through 842 acres, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office announced the search for him was suspended on Aug. 1.

On Sept. 3, the sheriff’s office learned that a hiker found human remains in the forest off of the Mont Chateau Trail, and the remains were taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for identification.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office announced the remains were positively identified as Magruder. He was 39 years old. The sheriff said no foul play is suspected.

I know my friend is going to be devastated. This was her daughter's pediatric neurologist. She has been texting me to see if I have heard anything since she knows I am involved with the missing and unidentified.

Dr. Magruder's obituary.

"He spent his best times with friends and family singing, gaming, playing guitar, cooking, hiking, fishing, camping and skiing. He also was an avid student of football and poetry, filling piles of notebooks with football plays and writing hundreds of poems.

"To his children, he was a best friend and champion. Always patient, understanding, and ready to smooth away fears and frustrations. He spent many hours playing their unique creations of roofball, stickball, and Run Dog Run. His expressive bedtime reading and storytelling is greatly missed."
....
"For all of his life, John was most at home in the natural world: from his boyhood days climbing a spruce in Glenn Allen, Virginia to trekking with the Boy Scouts on his way to earn his Eagle Scout Award; picking huckleberries and proposing to his wife among old growth hemlocks to exploring new trails with his children. He will always be found in the rocks, trees, and waterfalls."

This is all I found:

The sheriff did make it clear to The Dominion Post that there was "no foul play suspected, " but did not elaborate.

I saw my friend over the weekend whose daughter was a patient of Dr. Magruder. She is devastated. Her husband also works at the same hospital as Dr. Magruder and they are being pretty quiet about his cause of death. (I am thinking suicide and so is she) She has he had such an infectious laugh and his kindness and his caring about his pediatric patients was remarkable.

Yes. I imagine his loss will affect many people for a long time. He made an important and memorable impact on the world in his too short time here.
