A 32-year-old mother in West Virginia has been formally charged with killing her 3-month-old baby girl late last year, allegedly stabbing the infant in the chest multiple times with a butcher’s knife.

A Lewis County grand jury returned a true bill indicting Krista Anne Brunecz on one count each of murder and death of a child by a parent or guardian by child abuse, authorities announced.

Court records released earlier this year described a sanguinary scene inside of the apartment where Brunecz is accused of gruesomely stabbing her young child to death before turning the knife on herself.

Investigators spoke to Brunecz’s mother, who told them that at about 6:50 a.m. on the day of the stabbing, her daughter sent a photograph showing herself covered in blood and holding her daughter, who appeared to be “lifeless” in the photo, WSET reported.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, it can. WTH is wrong with these damned women? (I just can't use the word "mother")

The article says:

Brunecz’s boyfriend, who spoke to West Virginia MetroNews on the condition his name not be printed, told the radio news network that Brunecz had been suffering from postpartum psychosis and could not get help prior to the tragic incident.

No way! .. MOO

Brunecz, 32, of Weston, allegedly stabbed her daughter multiple times in the chest before stabbing herself. Police said the death occurred on Dec. 30. in an apartment at Weston Manor.

Brunecz was indicted on one count of murder and one count of death of a child by parent by child abuse.

Arraignment is set for Friday morning in Lewis County Circuit Court when a trial date will be scheduled.

Brunecz’s boyfriend, who asked not to be identified, previously told MetroNews she had suffered from postpartum psychosis and had not been able to get help for the condition leading up to the incident.

Her mother, Lorrie Cleavenger, spoke to MetroNews in February. She said her daughter has been struggling with mental health issues for most of her life.

“I just want people to pray for my daughter and pray the laws about mental health are changed,” Cleavenger said.

According to a criminal complaint 12 News obtained Monday, deputies arrived at the scene of the alleged stabbing, an apartment complex in Weston, just before 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30 after a caller told them there was “blood all over the apartment.”

Inside the apartment, deputies found a woman “kneeling in front of the couch with a lifeless infant in her arms,” a second woman who was covered in blood, and a bloody butcher knife, the complaint said.

The woman identified as 31-year-old Krista Brunecz and her baby were taken to the hospital, the child was pronounced dead. Officers collected the baby’s clothes, “observing several holes in the shirt and the chest area… that appeared to be inflicted by a knife,” the complaint.

An autopsy of the child released on Jan. 3 revealed that the three-month-old’s heart and lungs had been pierced by the knife, and it confirmed that the baby had died due to “several stab wounds to the chest,” according to the complaint.
