Following a missing child search that began early Friday afternoon, Cheyenne Police discovered the body of 2-year-old Athian Rivera in a Dumpster in the 400 block of Desmet Drive. An investigation is ongoing, but police say the public is not in danger.

Farkas said a reverse 911 call was sent out to locate the child within half a mile of his last known location; social media was used to try to find Rivera; and the child’s name was included in a national missing children database.

“This is an active investigation,” Farkas said, noting that she would not be taking additional questions from reporters. “There is no danger to the public.”

Friday night, several Cheyenne residents held a small candlelight vigil at the state Capitol to pray for Rivera’s family and for swift justice in the matter.

Nicole Cordova and her daughter, Valeriana, were among those who participated. Cordova said she saw a Facebook post about the vigil and felt compelled to attend, even though she doesn’t know the family.

“Being a mom, I can’t imagine what they’re going through,” Cordova said, choking back tears. “But I want them to know that we care, and we’re praying for them.”

When asked if she had a message for Rivera’s family, Cordova said, “Stay strong. He will live in the memories of everyone who knew him and loved him.”

It is so tragic to see a photo of a memorial of stuffed animals and notes for a 2-year-old attached to a fence next to a dumpster. Sad quotes in the article from his mother's social media (I didn't verify).
I bet LE is working very hard to try to make an arrest.

Police have yet to say whether a Cheyenne man they arrested Friday evening is believed to have been involved in the death of his girlfriend's son.

According to arrest records, 27-year-old Wyatt Lamb was taken into custody around 6:15 p.m. on a felony warrant for failure to appear and a misdemeanor warrant for parole violation.



This man was also arrested last year on domestic violence.

I taught Athian’s mom, Kassy, for 2 years and I feel sick for her. She was a loving mom and always seemed to put her kids first. I hope they can give this family some answers.

I hope he doesn't change his mind and enter a guilty plea in hopes of escaping the Death Penalty. And I do feel sorry for whatever attorney will be in charge of defending this monster. Somebody has to do it. SMH. All the attorney has to do is to see that he has a fair trial. No more.
