I am not in Wyoming where all this is happening. Sorry. Just relaying information as I get it.

anOriginalCreation, not sure if you know about WS’s “Verified Insider” process? If you become verified, you can provide information on behalf of Aubree & your family without having to link to MSM or LE. Without that verification, we are only allowed to comment on information from MSM or LE sources. If you are interested,

No thank you. My information is second hand. I talk to my son and his dad, his dad is Aubree's brother. I'm not really an inside source, since I'm not there and I'm not directly involved. I will refrain from posting anything that can't be backed up with a source.

For the LE here, the vehicle has OnStar, but it's never been activated. OnStar is saying there's nothing they can do. Is that true? The family trying to convince LE to get a warrant to get OnStar to activate it. Just wondering if that's possible?
That is strange, my last vehicle had onstar. I canceled it and decided to just use my cell phone. After breaking down out of town and not have a phone signal I hit the onstar button and an operator answered. She said that I could still use for 911 calls.

I've been tied up with other threads lately and just found this thread. I've read through and have questions.
1. What man would not take the dirt bike out of the truck prior to her taking off?
2. What man would not be extremely concerned about his truck and bike missing?
3. If they are rough camping without electricity, then it would seem that the phones would be charged using the truck plugin for chargers, therefore, she would have access to the charger inside the truck and there would be no reason, other than the truck battery going dead, for her phone to go dead.
4. Onstar can track the vehicle, even if it is off.
5. Her phone could be pinged right up to it being "dead", see item 3.
Just a few things I'm mulling over, I'll have more later.

I did find this article concerning Onstar tracking vehicles even though service has been canceled.
OnStar Tracks Your Car Even When You Cancel Service

My understanding from anOC's post is that the service was not canceled - it never had been activated. This article does not clarify whether a vehicle's OnStar is first activated by the factory and effectively "canceled" once the vehicle is sold by a dealer, leaving it up the the buyer to "re-activate" it – or if it simply has no functionality or trackability UNTIL the buyer activates it.

Does anyone know?

I think it’s fairly logical that dealerships would want to prevent test-drive-theft. This link says it’s activated at the factory for GM vehicles, at least.

Yes, I did do further research and found that you have to first have the service and cancel for them to continue to monitor the vehicle. Having said that, all the boyfriend needs to do is call OnStar and activate the service and they can immediately locate the missing truck. OnStar is a satellite service, not a cell phone type of service. They should be able to lock in on the vehicle as soon as they activate the service. IMO

When I bought my Yukon, it came with the first year free with the Onstar feature. I later canceled it but when I decided to use it in an emergency, the help assistance instantly picked up.

Yes, it is possible. However, getting the warrant is difficult in a missing adult case. What can be done is for law enforcement to allege a crime has been committed - Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle - and work a warrant from that. Prosecutors don't have to follow through with an actual prosecution.

Wow!!! If thats true why on earth hasn't it already been done?! If AC has wrecked off the road somewhere and is stuck inside the truck, time is of the essence.

My first thought is that bf doesn’t want her to get in trouble with the law, and he was afraid that if he enlists the law to find her, they might find her under the influence of something that’ll get her in trouble.

But, if there’s any chance that she’s run off the road and is trapped somewhere, they’ve used up a lot of priceless time, and they’d better move fast with that OnStar activation.

Something is off here... Why would Aubree take both the truck and the bike with her? Why would the group not look for Aubree right away? They waited two days! And also, I know that Sublette County is rural but I find it odd that there's no sign of Aubree or the truck. If there was an accident it would most likely be located by now since it's been six days already. Is there any water around? Something doesn't add up.

@Jane Gault well stated. Welcome to WEBSLEUTHS!!

Indeed it is very stressful. The common goal is to find AC and bring her home. Whatever it takes.

I did not know about the OnStar feature. Precious time lost it seems.

Where are you AC?

  • #117
i’m remaining very hopefully that the family will find AC.

is this area an active logging zone? assuming so as she ran into the loggers on a saturday, there should be much more commercial traffic during the week and surely the roads have to be grated and maintained as well? the road seems well travelled.

what has the weather been like and why did she get stuck?

what town was her errand in? this is the confusing factor. i can understand getting turned around in a forested, dirt road, no signs kind of area. but it doesn’t say what direction she was coming from..?

Praying that the mystery of Aubrey's disappearance is solved soon and that she is found safe and that her loved ones can put their minds to rest and rejoice with her. Such a perplexing case.

Guys I've ever known, whether they were concerned about the gf or not, would be having a conniption if their truck was missing. Just saying...If it's true that he's not looking, I find that very odd and questionable.
