Bizarre and sad case that I'm surprised hasn't been talked about and doesn't have a thread on here.

^^ article has a lot of information

Rashida Sumaiya, the mother, decided to join ISIS and took the kids with her to Syria. She was killed in an airstrike later and now their whereabouts are unknown.

The father seems very distraught and apparently, when looking for his children in a refugee camp, "found a 3-year-old American boy...reached out to his contacts in the US government that he used to beg for help to find his children and told them about this little boy" and he is now back in the United States. Tragic but glad he was able to help another family in a similar predicament.

I hope this case can get some traction on here!

so the mother is deceased and the children are still missing?

Looks like it. According to the article, she was killed by an airstrike and the children (including her new child through a second marriage) are nowhere to be found. The father has gotten a few leads and tried looking for them in Syria/nearby countries but hasn’t found anything. They’re suspected to be in ISIS custody. So bizarre and scary. Imagine your child gets taken to ISIS because your wife or husband converted.

Nitpick, but the whole family is Bengali Muslim, and no one converted per se. They seem pretty far removed from the ideals of ISIS, but it wasn't a conversion.

Thanks - I got that from the article I linked. “Somehow, his wife, Rashida Sumaiya, was radicalized and decided to join ISIS in Syria, Shikder said.”

Where did you read that? I knew they were Muslim but I thought the wife did join ISIS. Sorry if I misinterpreted! Thanks for posting on this thread:)

What I meant is that while the mother joined ISIS, she didn't convert to another religion; she was already Muslim.
