Zetas cartel boss, wanted in U.S., nabbed in Mexico. (San Antonio Express-News)
Mexican marines arrested the Zetas drug cartel's notorious leader, Miguel Treviño Morales, on Monday morning, Mexican officials said, swooping down in a helicopter to capture the ruthless fugitive.

Treviño Morales, considered a merciless killer behind thousands of slayings and a criminal mastermind who rose to power over the gang's founding members, was caught with a bodyguard and an accountant as his truck traveled southwest of the border city of Nuevo Laredo, said Eduardo Sánchez, the spokesman on security issues for Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The drug kingpin is wanted for a host of crimes in Mexico, Sánchez said, including the deaths of nearly 300 immigrants in the northern town of San Fernando.

The men were traveling with eight rifles and $2 million in cash, Sánchez said.

Treviño Morales is wanted in the United States on charges of drug trafficking, money laundering and murder.

Known by his radio call sign “El 40,” or “Cuarenta” in Spanish, Treviño Morales has the most-feared name on the stretch of the Rio Grande between Texas and the Mexican states of Coahuila and Tamaulipas.

I saw this news first thing this morning, and all I can say is "Thank you!!!" Now to see if he'll get to prosecution, and, if so, if he goes to prison.

This is one seriously bad dude...

Mexico's most-wanted drug lord who 'stewed' his victims alive in burning oil barrels is captured. (Daily Mail)
---
He is believed to be responsible, both personally and by proxy, for the deaths of hundreds of immigrant slaves and rival criminals - many of whom died in unimaginable pain.

Reports from within the organization claim that Morales enjoyed driving around the city in a car and pointing at people randomly and saying, 'kill him... kill her.'
---
His trademark method of murder became known as the 'guiso', meaning 'stew' in English, where victims are stuffed into an oil barrel, doused with gasoline, and set on fire to burn alive.

He developed the method to challenge other cartel hitmen who competed to come up with ever-more terrifying and creative ways of killing.
They included Teodoro Garcia Simental famed for having the corpses of tortured rivals dissolved in baths of acid.

Another method of fear-mongering, favoured by Morales as well as other cartels, was decapitating rivals and hanging their bodies from bridges or monuments, often with warning signs hung around their necks or stabbed into their chests with ice picks.

So happy they got him. Now I hope they can convict him.

And I hope they are able to turn him. He likely had police officers and other officials on his payroll. They will have to get them too.

I remember Nuevo Laredo when it was a friendly town (albeit even then under Zeta control) and no headless bodies were dangling from bridges.

Friend bought a condo there.
This man is a MONSTER.
I hope he hates the rest of his miserable life. Death is too good for him. IMO:behindbar:behindbar
