Sentencing and beyond- JA General Discussion #5

Just finished watching Dr. Phil. More commercials than content, IMO, and most of the content was nothing new. Maybe Juan's book will offer new insight.

Not very hopeful about Juan's appearance tonight on Nancy Grace being better, mostly because she never let's her guests speak.

But watching JVM (once again hawking HER book), made me think: Is there just one graphic design (or designer) for JA books? How weird is it that they look so much alike?

Clancey Talbott said CMJA ex cell mate contacted her and said CMJA was ordering a hit from jail on TA sibling, JM, both Hughes and Clancey. Dr. Phil asked Clancey if she had reported that to the police and she said NO.

WHAT????

I kind of always wondered about Janeen DeMarte's break-in actually...

Yes, that's what JM said.

??? All the things he mentioned indicating premed happened May 28 and afterwards. Nothing he said could or did take place before then.

Unless there's something in the book he didn't discuss, and I missed hearing 2 months? Puzzled now. Good thing I get the book tommorrow.

I don't see why not but you may be able to hide it by typing "[sp]" at the beginning and "[/sp]" at the end of it (no quotation marks), it should put it in a small box to click on and open.

ETA: I tried it, spoiler doesn't work here, at least when I tested and previewed it, no little box with words hiding behind it. :( But I did hear what Clancy said at the end.

What Clancy said -from the audience, near the end, was that she believed the killer may have started planning as early as March 2008, and bases that on seeing the transition in her journals, and ...being asked by the killer in March if Clancy thought she could recognize her with dark hair.

That must have been at the OKC in mid- March, when the killer wrote in her journal a week or so beforehand she was going to dye her hair because she was tired of blonde upkeep, but would wait until after convention because her family had never seen her blonde.

I don't know if he was being accurate or not, but what I heard him say was that she "secured" (or maybe began efforts to get) the 2 gas cans two months in advance.

I could be wrong, but I was watching/reading in real-time...

OMG!!! What Clancy just said about when she believes the killer began premeditating murder, based on a question the killer asked her.

Please elaborate for those of us who could not watch/listen.

ETA: OK, just noticed that you did elaborate a couple posts above. TY.

Clancy was just on and I didn't hear anything about a question JA asked her that made her think she was planning to kill Trav.
JA asked if she would recognize her if her hair was dark.

Sometimes I read posts and reply to one and that appears a page or so down. Then before I can continue reading I get distracted with something happening here at home. So, if at times my questions make me look like I am out of the loop...rest assured that I am.

Dr. Phil didn't disappoint, but only because my expectations were already really low! If you have Juan Martinez making a rare appearance, allow him only 10 minutes and then have him sit in the audience for the rest of the show? Great idea Dr.Phil!:banghead:

She's still in phase 3, apparently, and still has visitation even. "All" that was taken away was contact visitation. The CO could have just tsked tsked, basically, or chosen a formal reprimand penalty that didn't mean as much to her.

Sounds to me like the CO deliberately chose a penalty that would kick her hardest in the gut in the off chance the will begin to understand she is NOT in control any more and never will be again.

She still does have that 2 guard escort, which I think is why the reprimand made note of the 's nonchalence about bucking authority even when she's almost quite literally chained to it.

Someone on twitter found something interesting today, IMO, which has me still wondering if losing contact visits was the only penalty. The site that handles Securepak shipments shows a shipment for JA ordered on 2/9, and a message that another order can't be placed for 2 mos...says she can have one every other month. Step 3 gets 1 per month, and Step 2 gets 1 every other month. So, it's possible that ROL just mentioned one of the lost privileges and she has been put back into Step 2.

A few SS from Dr. Phil......

:). Hope you're right. I thought I remembered from discussions long ago that any infraction would knock her back a step, but figured maybe she'd been in 3 long enough that was no longer the case?

There's nothing after 3, right, for another 3-4 years? Do you know if after say 3 more years at step 3 they'd demote her back to step 2 for an infraction?

This is very mean of me, and I'm almost sorry for that, but I like the idea better of the CO's having discretion to pick and choose what to take away from her. It's more personal that way.:shame:

IIRC, Darryl testified under cross that she called about the gas cans twice, both in the last week of May.

ETA. I thought it was interesting that Dr. Phil had JVM talk about "the story that hasn't been told" rather than give her free reign to go diving into the salacious gutter.

Might just be wishful thinking, but I'm wondering if that was because JM cannot advance any other basic narrative/theory of the crime while appeals are ongoing, but he gave his OK to having someone else take a few steps in the right direction, anyway, about her setting Travis up.

Yes, if in Step 3 she can be put back to Step 2 with a minor infraction at any time ( back to Step 1 with a major infraction) but it also says decisions are on case by case basis and up to the Program team. There is no maximum time in Step 3 and I suppose one could stay there indefinitely, but there is a possibility of having your custody class lowered. Those w/life sentences have to stay in Max for min of 2 years, but after that and with 180 days in Step 3 they can be considered for a lower custody level - Close custody.

Ugh. I thought she had to serve at least 5 years in maximum custody. Though I guess the upside is that in close custody she'll have a bunkie, right? Can't imagine that'll turn out well for her.
FWIW, I looked up the SecurePak thing out of curiosity. The info is freely available on Pak's site. The last order I see was shipped on 1/9 and doesn't mention anything about when the next may be shipped. (?)

Ahhh poor JA, I guess she won't be getting JM's book tomorrow eh?

A tweet from NG show says that Travis was still alive in that photo of the evil killer's leg and foot. :(

And...something about the killer "bikini shopping" (?). Is anyone watching the show?

Yes, if you try to place an order it tells you this:

I am, as I commented on the other thread, that pic of her leg/foot with TA bleeding out on the ground was certainly much clearer. Did you also note that the sun was shining very brightly through the window just above TA? Makes me think that pic could have been taken when she shot him... pretty sure it was in the bathroom with his feet towards the windows. I hope someone tapes it and puts it on YouTube.
