Amanda Berry (2003), Gina deJesus (2004), & Michelle Knight (2002) found alive! #1

Does anybody have any information about why there is no information about Michelle Knight? I have not been able to find any missing persons sites or news report on her case online. That she was an adult when she went missing is not a sufficient reason. Many missing adults receive a lot of attention.

Penn State Sandusky Trial #11 (Verdict - GUILTY!)

As a member of the Penn State faculty (not the State College campus) I am so relieved to see that justice has been served. I do not know any of my colleagues to feel differently.

CA - Chowchilla school bus: 26 kids & driver abducted, 15 July 1976

I remember this story from when I was a kid -- about 13 years old -- living in So Cal. It was one of the earliest cases of child kidnapping that I became aware of and it was frightening to realize that such random acts of terror could happen to kids just like me.

Dating back 37,000 years, oldest cave art discovered at Abri Castanet: yep, it's *advertiser censored*

These vulva drawings are relatively common in the Dordogne region, but this is the earliest. The earliest known "Venus" figurine with the genitalia clearly defined is from the same time period. Fertility and reproduction would have been very important to Paleolithic humans. Venus of Hohle Fels...

CA - Honors class boots copycat; parents sue district despite signed pledge

The parents are wrong here. The boy needs to learn a hard lesson. Better now than later when it will be much more serious. As a college professor, I am SO tired of dealing with students who think nothing of cheating.

Did *advertiser censored* Sapiens Use Fire to Cook Food Over 1 Million Years Ago?

So far there is just no evidence for fire being used by hominids as far back as tool-making (about 2 million years ago, *advertiser censored* habilis). There are no examples of ash pits found in association with the tools or fossils of that time. But no evidence does not mean that it wasn't happening and perhaps...

Did *advertiser censored* Sapiens Use Fire to Cook Food Over 1 Million Years Ago?

This article says that "Prior to the new findings, scientists had good evidence that humans had total control over fire at least 400,000 years ago." However, there is a well-studied site in Israel with evidence for controlled use of fire dated to about 790,000 years ago. This new South African...

"One of the most remarkable legal hearings in Scientology's history" set to begin

Technically, a cult is a religion with a relatively small number of followers that is considered to be unorthodox or illegitimate. All of the major religions that exist today had their beginnings as cults.

GA - Attempted Abduction Caught On Tape, Guy On Parole For Manslaughter

I saw this little girl on the news. What a brave little thing. So happy that she is safe. I believe it is unrealistic to expect parents to keep their children in sight every minute of the day but the toy section of any store is not a place for children to be left alone -- and children should not...

GUILTY Italy - Costa Concordia Cruise Ship runs aground/flips, 2012

I'm confused. How did the captain steer the ship too close to shore when he was reportedly dining with passengers at the time the accident occurred? Was it another crew member who wanted to show off and salute a friend on shore? Nonetheless, the captain and crew should have stayed on board to...

Ohio woman loses appeal on "White Only" pool sign

The "swastika" is one of the oldest abstract symbols. It is found on pottery in Mesopotamia going back about 5000 years ago. It is also found in some of the earliest churches and synagogues (which are in the Middle East). The symbol is also commonly used in east Asia. Its meaning varies from...

Sesame Street's original Gordon: Do you know this man?

Thanks Charli-Ann. So I guess the video of "Gordon" is not to help identify the first actor since it shows only the known Matt Robinson. Odd. They need to post a clip from the pilot that shows the mystery Gordon.
