I knew someone who became addicted to Norco (pretty much the same med).
He would take 60, 10mg or more a day. He went crazy. He was not himself. So much happened; I could not believe he was my friend. Thankfully, he is clean now and it took him over a year to become more like his true self...
The first Dark Knight movie, the wig worn when the Joker dressed as a nurse looks red: http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/pjam07/NurseJoker2.jpg
I just posted about this, in different words. It wasn't just older wives -any wife or daughter. Because, in Victorian times, it was rumoured the uterus made women susceptible to be insane. Men took young girls from conservatories, orphanages, or bought them from poor families... only to tire of...
Pharma = $$$$
There are people in mental hospitals who should not be, with many more like them taken and forced in... while those who truly need to be there are out helpless and dangerous either to themselves or others (usually themselves). It's already much like Victorian times -add grabbing...
I completely agree in it being a horrible tragedy. A horrible senseless one, like his message will be. Sad, because someone had to have known he needed help. But, it's not their fault. Now many are mourning and traumatised. Many are suffering PTSD and who knows what else. He fractured other's...

"He didn't have a job,"she said. "I felt bad for him because he studied...
So far to me, it looks like an intelligent young man -not knowing how to relate and socialise with others fell to depression, his studies went down, his grades went down, he went down -an early nervous breakdown from failure and loneliness spiraling into delusions -meds or lack of meds included...
I actually love some of the villain characters. AS CHARACTERS! It's one thing to dress as a character for Halloween -another to live out scenes, taking lives... So sad.
That part was a game to him. And if he is delusional to thinking he is The Joker, it would fit. The Joker was a doctor himself, thus he drove Doctor Harleen Francis Quinzel (his Psychiatrist, while kept in isolation/prison) into becoming Harley Quinn (who became mad and madly in love with him)...
