Hundreds mourn murdered exotic dancer

Family and friends packed the chapel at a funeral home in Ottawa on Tuesday to remember murder victim Jessica Riopelle.

Exotic dancer's manager charged in her death

OTTAWA — Red rose petals littered the parking lot at an east-end funeral home Tuesday morning after the memorial service for homicide victim Jessica Riopelle

Did they even indicate whether she was found fully clothed? I would imagine she had certain kinds of "date" clothing so it might be easier to figure out whether she was on "date" if her clothing was found with her.

MOO

I'm not sure, Kamille, but one thing stood out to me from what I read.

The person who found her, thought she was a mannequin at first, perhaps because she had no clothes on, and was so skinny???

I do know the LI SK women were found with no personal items, including clothing, I believe.

This is extremely sad.

After the discovery of her remains, Jaymi wanted a funeral for her friend whose life of hardship included foster homes and a stint as Toronto escort. "She was just placed in this box, with her name written in black marker over the top of it," she says, her voice breaking.
"Myself, another friend and one of her foster mothers came to say goodbye, that was it."

A similar news clip from the same day, same author- seems to no longer be available, but this one was.Sorry if already posted, but somehow I must have overlooked (or forgotten) this little bit...

After all, Jaymi was to go to an apartment where Freeland had been locked out to collect some of the 20-year-old’s personal items

Getting to the bottom of the specific timeline involved with these calls are very important clues, in determining Kera's final days, IMO.

Why would the Agency state these various things, if they had not even talked to Kera at all (since she was missing?). I am not sure their answers about a mix-up in names really flies, but, then again, the people involved in that lifestyle must come and go as a rule.

Kera had such a true friend in Jaymi, even though she didn't know her very long. Jaymi truly cared about Kera, and will likely be sad about her friend forever.

I hope Kera knew how much her new friend cared.

She couldn’t remember which escort agency Freeland worked for so she Googled every one in the city until she came across Cachet Ladies.

At her urging, Jaymi’s boyfriend began calling the escort agency to order Freeland. Every single time, they informed her that Freeland was working. Each time she would cancel the order, as she only wanted to hear that her friend was alive.

The third time she called the person on the other end, the woman said Freeland was off for a few days and offered to send another girl.

Jaymi went to police, who felt that Freeland was simply a runaway.

Jaymi said she begged them to take Freeland’s laptop and cell phones and start investigating, because time was ticking, but they refused. Police did not respond to a request for an interview.

As weeks passed and Jaymi heard nothing from her friend, she called the escort agency and the police daily, hearing no news.

Jaymi said that eventually she knew police would be looking for the body of her friend.

Cell phones? IIRC, the agency said Kera had supposedly called/texted her roommate and told her she was on a bad date, but we had JD saying that Kera called/texted her and was making arrangements to see her the next day. Regardless of which story is accurate, how did Kera's cell phone get from where she was calling from to where she was staying?

As good a friend as this gal sounds, I don't totally disregard that (iirc) she is the former roommate of the father of Kera's unborn child .. the fellow who's whereabouts were unknown (unless he has recently been located?)

At one point, it was reported that JD said she tried to track Kera by pretending to be a prospective client in a phone call to Cachet Ladies, and that "they would just send a different girl.” Now it is reported in the most recent version that JD supposedly had her boyfriend call the agency to request Kera, and that they would then call the agency back and cancel the order. Which one is it?

CALGARY - Calgary businessman Codie "Brooklyn" Cardinal is a man of many lines of work, a Crown lawyer said Thursday.

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Crime/2011/04/15/18001206.html
Both women said Cardinal had them come to Calgary - one from Saskatoon, the other from Edmonton - to make money working as escorts offering sex for money on Craigslist

Maggie’s: the Toronto Sex Workers Action Project respectfully offers our condolences to the friends, family and community of Kera Freeland.
We must also condemn the recent media coverage of her death, which exemplifies sensationalistic, lurid and exploitative journalism.
Ms. Freeland was a 20-year-old woman who we believe was also an escort. So far we have no evidence that her death is linked to her work nor that she was killed by a client or anyone connected to the sex industry. We also have no evidence that Ms. Freeland was open about her work to her family and friends. Regardless, her death is being feasted on by those who are attributing her death to her work and her “lifestyle” and her privacy is being disregarded entirely.
We regard this as sexist victim-blaming and discrimination against sex workers. We’re confident that the same associations between work and violence would not have been made if Ms. Freeland were in any other profession. If her death is work related, it is further evidence that lack of rights and criminalization put sex worker’s lives at risk.

.Fourth arrest in 2008 murder
Police announced today (June 3) they have charged a fourth person in relation to the 2008 murder of Brampton resident Ariel Besley. The 18-year-old’s body was found in a ditch along Old School Road in Caledon.
Two Orangeville men are among those previously charged in the case, as well as a man from Brampton

From 2008 includes picture of victim.

On May 15, OPP were called after a pedestrian discovered the body of Ariel Besley, 18, on the shoulder of Old School Rd., between Dixie Rd. and Heart Lake Rd. in Caledon.

This item caught my eye because of the location of where the victim was dumped and because it involved a young person...

"I would offer her my bed because she said it's been so long since she's slept in one. She was so used to crashing on couches and futons, and she was really sick from the pregnancy and the cancer," Jaymi says.

She says Freeland would joke that she hadn't been cuddled in forever, and Jaymi would curl up beside her on the bed so that she wouldn't feel so alone."

How terribly, heartbreakingly sad and ironic, that this beautiful girl had no bed, no money and no one to cuddle , yet - had a job that involves going to bed with people who pay lots of money for a "girlfriend experience".

One of the most heartbreaking things I have ever read here on WS - ever.

That area is very popular for murders and dumping bodies.

Not far from the Toronto Metro area and lots of bush and side roads.
Most you don't see on here because they are from drug dealings.

‘Somebody knows something,’ says mother of deceased escort

It’s been almost three months since Kera Freeland’s body was found in a ditch in Caledon, and yet there are still no answers about how she died or who could be responsible.

In an exclusive interview with the Toronto Star, Freeland’s adoptive mother spoke for the first time Thursday and shared pictures of her daughter as she appealed for more information on Kera’s death at age 20.

Let's hope there will be some new developments soon in finding out what happened to Kera.

More info:

The next time she saw her daughter, Denise was in Toronto claiming her body.

She never saw Freeland in the casket, nor did any other friends. She was advised not to look.

Denise doesn’t know how she died, but she hopes the answers will come.

The Ontario Provincial Police have assured her that this is an active case and police are withholding some information to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The OPP’s homicide detectives have said that they are still awaiting test results to determine the cause of death. Her death has not officially been classified a homicide. It’s possible Freeland’s body was in the Caledon ditch for up to two months.

Conte was last seen on May 21, 2010 in Caledon and some of his remains were later found in the District of Muskoka and the County of Simcoe.

Police say homicide detectives will also announce a significant development aimed at solving the grisly crime.

I wonder if this case in anyway is related to some of the other cases with a Caledon connection?

There is already a thread for this person on WS
