Nov. 18, 2022

After Ibraheem Yazeed was indicted on three counts of capital murder by a grand jury in the Aniah Blanchard murder case on Tuesday, the arraignment hearing for the case was set for March 6, 2023, in Macon County.

During the arraignment hearing, a judge will read the charges against the Yazeed, make sure he understands the charges, confirm he has an attorney and inform him of important trial rights.
[.....]
The Alabama Attorney General’s Office will be prosecuting the case with aid from Lee County and Macon County District Attorney’s offices.

I found him under Macon County instead of Lee County.

It has been awhile since he was in court - so will shorten this up a bit now. :) Did not know this was taking place in Macon County - so he "might" have had other hearings - oh well...

12/2/19 Update: Now charged with capital murder. Also DA intends to seek the death penalty. Aniah was shot to death. Also due in Montgomery County court Thursday, 12/5/19. He is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing at 8:30 a.m. in reference to his February first-degree kidnapping & attempted murder charges.
12/4/19 Update: Yazeed is now charged with 2 counts of capital murder (kidnapping & use of a deadly weapon while victim inside a vehicle). The DA will seek DP. No ruling on gag order yet. The Judge took it under advisement & should have decision in a couple of days. Judge Bush found probable cause to send Yazeed’s case to the grand jury. He also denied bail for Yazeed after hearing his motion for bond reconsideration & approved a motion to collect a DNA swab from Yazeed for evidence comparison.
3/4/20 Update: Preliminary hearing on 4/13/20 has been rescheduled for 6/3/20.
11/15/22 Update: Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said Yazeed has been indicted on three counts of capital murder in Blanchard’s death. The case was presented before a grand jury on Nov. 4, 2022. Specifically, the indictment charges Yazeed with one count of capital murder during a kidnapping in the first degree, one count of capital murder during robbery in the first degree, and one count of capital murder involving a victim in a vehicle. The indictment further charges Yazeed with intentionally causing the death of Blanchard by shooting her with a gun during the course of abducting her & robbing her of her vehicle. Arraignment hearing 3/6/23 in Macon County.
Lee County: Yazeed is now charged (4/20/20) with 2nd degree assault in connection with the 3/23/20 incident at the Lee County Detention Center. Lee County
3/23/20 Incident: Yazeed was being assisted back to his cell following a shower. Yazeed allegedly then refused to enter his cell & was given several verbal commands to enter his cell. Officers continued to give verbal commands & Officer Carroll gave him one while having his taser out & he refused to enter his cell. Officer deployed his taser & Yazeed continued to be combative & resisting. Allegedly began swinging his fists and kicking at officers. Tased several more times & had no effect on him, so officer struck him with their batons. A fourth & fifth corrections officers responded to assist & while attempting to gain control of Yazeed, Yazeed bit Officer Dunlap on the lower left leg. Assault on a first responder, including correction officers, is automatically a felony. Preliminary hearing on 5/27/20. 5/27/20 Update: Lee County judge Steven Speakman indicted Yazeed Wednesday on the assault charge & will send the case to a grand jury. Yazeed will be back in court on June 3rd for the preliminary hearing in the capital murder case of Aniah.
*AL – Stephen Hamby (29) (Dec. 1, 2018, Montgomery) & injured Geraldine Talley (54) shot in face, but later died of natural causes - *Ibraheem Yazeed (29) charged (6/25/20) with murder & attempted murder. Montgomery County
Investigators cite newly-discovered witnesses & the re-examination of evidence collected at the scene developed Yazeed as a suspect in Hamby's murder. Yazeed is expected to face prosecution in Lee County first.
*Antwon “Squirmy” Shamar Fisher (35) was arrested & charged (11/22/19) & arraigned on (11/25/19) with first-degree kidnapping. No plea entered yet. $50K bond. Preliminary hearing on 12/18. 12/17/19: Charges dismissed “with prejudice” by Judge.
*David Lee Johnson, Jr. (63) – Preliminary hearing on 1/3/20. No update on court site thru 3/8/23.

*AL – Yazeed was out on bond on charges of attempted murder & 2 counts of 1st degree kidnapping, 2 counts of 1st degree robbery & possession of marijuana in connection with a January 2019 crime. According to court records, two male victims – one of them 77-years-old - were held against their will in a hotel room (SureStay Motel) in January 2019 on the 1200 block of Eastern Blvd. The older man was beaten until “unconscious, unresponsive, severely injured and near death” & robbed of a Rolex, rifle, handguns, wallet, bank card, clothing & unknown amount of currency. The other man was also beaten & robbed of at least $40. Bond was $295K has been revoked (12/5/19). Montgomery County
12/5/19 Update: Due in court for bond hearing 12/5/19 in reference to the January 2019 of 1st kidnapping & attempted murder charges. Preston Presley did not oppose the judge’s order for bond revocation, reserving the option to revisit the issue if the counts in Lee County were dropped. The Montgomery case is currently bound over for grand jury consideration.

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (WSFA) - The man accused of killing Aniah Blanchard was arraigned in court Monday morning.

Ibraheem Yazeed, 33, pleaded not guilty to all counts of capital murder, according to court documents. He was indicted on three counts in November.
[.....]
He also asked for additional counsel at his arraignment.

The defense has 10 days to file any special motions or pleas on the indictment.

Yazeed could face the death penalty if convicted.

And it looks Johnson is FINALLY going to court. This is out of Montgomery County.

I did notice he has a new case #, must have been indicted in 2023. He was supposed to have a grand jury back in January, 2021. The only case I have against him is hindering prosecution for Aniah's case.

If anyone can find out "what" these new charges might be - if the same as before - as usual I am coming up with zero over here.

edited to add: Hopefully I have the correct David Lee Johnson....

This case seems to be taking a very long time to get to trial. I mean, all cases take a long time to get to trial, but it just seems that this case is taking even longer.

Yazeed was arrested on 8th Nov 2019. It took 3 years to indict him. 3½ years to arraign him.
I wonder why it took so long to indict him.

Just received this article in my alerts -

quote from article:
Yazeed also faces separate capital murder charges in Lee County in connection to Aniah Blanchard’s disappearance and death in 2019.

How does that work? Macon County just charged him with Aniah's murder which he just plead not guilty to. How can Lee county or Macon county for that matter charge him twice for the same murder??

Anyone know?

Hopefully I have the correct David Johnson....

10/23/20 Update: Lee County District attorney Brandon Hughes was unsure when the case might go before a grand jury. The next opportunity is in January, 2021.

Any updates on this case?

This case & many others are on my "look every week list" - and no - no updates thru 5/23/23....

I have 2 counties that I look up for Yazeed. They are Macon & Montgomery Counties. The Lee County case for Aniah was moved to Macon County.

In Montgomery county he is charged with murder for Steven Hamby & attempted murder for Geraldine Talley on 12/1/18.

For Yazeed last was arraignment hearing on 3/6/23 for the Aniah's case. Where he asked for additional counsel.

So - to answer your question - no updates....

Thank you so very much! The wait has been so long for the family.

Harris says while justice certainly helps with closure, it doesn't wipe away the pain of what happened.

"You know, just like we're still awaiting trial for the person who's been charged with three capital murder charges for killing my daughter," Harris explains. "I'm not waiting on that day. That's not going to be the day I say everything is OK cause it's never going to be OK. I want my daughter back, just like I know Beth wants Natalee back."

Again - not sure IF this is the correct David Lee Johnson...
