From NSW Police Force, January 18, 2022

A man will face court today charged with murder following an investigation into the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl.

Strike Force Buena was established by Blue Mountains Police Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl after she was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday (14 January 2022).

Following extensive investigations, officers attached to the strike force yesterday (Tuesday 18 January 2022), conducted a search in the vicinity of the Colo River.

With the assistance of the Police Divers, Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Operational Support Group (OSG) and Police Rescue Squad, the body of a child was located in a barrel. The body is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

As part of ongoing investigations, detectives attached to Strike Force Buena attended a unit in Riley Street, Surry Hills about 8.30pm last night (Tuesday 18 January 2022), and arrested a 31-year-old man.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with murder.

The man was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Wednesday 19 January 2022).

Investigations under Strike Force Buena are continuing.

Police have confirmed human remains found last night were "consistent" with those of a nine-year-old girl who went missing in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

A man was charged with the murder of the girl last night.

The girl was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday, January 14.

SUB JUDICE

As an arrest has been made in this matter, under Australian law this case is now under sub judice throughout the entire judicial process until such time as the time to appeal has passed or an appeal is completed.

Previous threads discussing this case have been pulled due to the victim's name being contained throughout.

Members must use initials only for the name of both the accused and the victim. If you quote something from MSM, please ensure both the quoted material AND the hyperlink do not contain the name of either the accused or the victim

IMPORTANT: Under sub-judice, the following is not allowed:

Anything that may prejudice the accused’s right to a fair trial (i.e. any suggestions or direct accusations that the accused is either guilty or innocent)

Calling the accused "the killer" or "murderer" (it has to be "the accused", the "alleged killer" or "the defendant")

References to a defendant’s previous history of any offences

Scandalizing the court (disparaging judges/lawyers, any officer of the Court)

Broadcasting anything about proceedings which happen in the jury's absence

Any non compliance with an Order of the court

Do not post anything that violates the above principles.

Breaching sub judice can result in charges of contempt of court.

Thank you.

I want to provide some clarity on some areas of interest in this case. Also, I am hoping some other locals will be able to add some more input.

I am a Sydney girl, originally from the inner city area, near Five Dock, which is a suburb. The actual Five Dock boat ramp is a few suburbs over in Drummoyne. It is a 24 hour boat ramp. I went to Uni out west, near Penrith and then worked around the Windsor area. I know of at least 8 boat ramps along that path. 4 of which are open for 24 hours... easily searched on Google.

So why travel all the way to the Five Dock boat ramp when there were a number of choices closer?

IMO... just a thought... perhaps he was hoping to launch the boat there, go out as far as he could towards open waters to dump the barrel? The boat may have been inoperable due to the long time it sat unused at the estate. ALL MOO

I’m having trouble understanding most aspects of this case. <modsnip> Both have kids not in their custody, but are having one together. CM gets to spend two weeks with her mum but she lets the boyfriend take her alone while she stays with friends at a caravan park. She makes no plans to go to the estate to even spend some time with her daughter each day. Mum manages to get to the property Friday morning, conveniently after JS has disposed of CM and I assume any other evidence, like a weapon. No one knows what she was wearing, did mum not pack her a bag to stay? If not then wouldn’t she be in the clothes she left in? How severe is a medical episode that it prevents you from doing whatever you can to find your missing child? So far I believe nothing from KM or JS. Moo

It's an ongoing investigation, so LE are finding out new facts as they go along, I think there's been some misunderstanding and or bad reporting on the case also.

"KM and JS had one or more phone conversations on Thursday, January 13, the day he allegedly spent almost five hours driving around with CM in the back of his Ute before he eventually placed the nine-year-old’s body on the banks of the Colo River.

In the statement KM gave to detectives last week, KM said JS initially provided an explanation as to why CM was not at the rural estate where she had left her in his care almost 48 hours earlier.

“JS gave a story about where the kid was and she believed him, then later on she got concerned and reports CM missing,” a police source told The Daily Telegraph."

BBM maybe the rush around trying to dispose of poor CM was due to the fact KM had enough of the excuses & told JS she would be there in the morning

The cousin of CM has remembered the nine-year-old as a "smart, positive and happy" young girl.

She implored all Australians to remember the schoolgirl as she was in life.

"She was always very happy...a very smart and just happy girl," Ms H said.

"No-one has really celebrated her life yet as a whole.

"I want her to know that there's people out here that care, miss and love her.

"It's just a matter of just remembering her for herself, not for all this negativity and the constant updates and stuff; just for the positivity in her life that she had."

Has something changed? Initially it was reported “police will allege in court that Mr S had held phone conversations with the child’s mother in the lead-up to the body being discovered.

“[There were] a number of telephone conversations with the girl’s mother, to purchase a number of sandbags, 20kg sandbags from a hardware store, to fuel a boat and then try and float that boat on the water at one of the docks in inner Sydney,” he said.

Paraphrased:

CM's mother at first believed the account from her fiance about her daughter’s whereabouts and only later realise something was wrong and raised the alarm.

KM and JS had one or more phone conversations on the Thursday, January 13, the day he allegedly spent almost 5 hrs driving her body around in the back of his ute before he eventually dumped the nine-year-old’s body on the banks of the Colo River.

Nothing is kosher about those two in this story, hopefully the GPS will detail the movements of both the mum and dad to identify their movements. What on earth did KM think JS was buying sand for? A sand pit for CM???? Who's idea was that? Wouldn't you raise the alarm?

IMO the mum didn't have anything to do with it. She may not have been the most diligent parent or made the best choices regarding her parenting, but that's not unusual for drug users.

I think she trusted her fiancé completely, until he couldn't explain where CM was.

the conversations re sand could have been about him needing to do some work on the grounds of the estate (a favour to mum) and the boat fuel could have been "I'm taking mum (AS) & CM for a ride on the boat in Sydney"

I think she truly is a victim of JS (accused).

*sandbag conversations could also be passed off as flood mitigation due to recent storms*

There was some type of construction work going on at Wildenstein, but no one really knows what was said in those conservations as it was before the LE investigation had even started, KM could have been asking how CM was going and JS could have given a false response.

From today's Courier Mail newspaper. Can't provide the link as the article contains full names.

Just to add, I've read similar articles this morning but none of them say where he supposedly told her CM was , who with or what she was doing. Guess that will come out down the track.

The footprints that they found aren't on the Weildenstein property, I wonder if the items found were items of interest to the case?

Earlier this week there were reports that RFS volunteers discovered multiple sets of footprints on a trail not far from the property where the nine-year-old was last seen.

One print seemed to be "very small and barefooted", Nine News reported.

NSW Police Chief Inspector Gary Sims told reporters "certain items have been found and identified".

"But unfortunately [they] haven't led to anything that gives us a definite indication of her location," he said.

so there must be a witness to verify kms whereabouts at the time cm died, and also whether she drove or was driven to wildenstein on friday morning?

C’s mother has now been reinterviewed by police since been released from medical care after she suffered a medical episode.

“The formal statement corroborates the original version she provided, and with the evidence we have, we’re treating her as a witness,” Mr Doherty said.

“There’s no information or evidence that puts her at the property at the time of the murder.”

I could definitely have the wrong opinion here..... however I think the footprints are a big "nothing burger" ...

I think they were used as distraction by the media as they couldn't report on what was actually happening that day with the real investigation ....

All my opinion....
