I am reading on many reviews "room had no electrical outlet", and that would hinder a phone being charged to call home. So, there is a little hope in this posting.

Elisa did not check out but was last seen by hotel staff on Jan 31st...

A Facebook profile that appears to be Lam’s says she attended University Hill Secondary School on UBC campus before university. A LinkedIn profile that appears to belong to Lam says she is expected to graduate in 2016, and a profile on the research-sharing website academia.edu that looks like Lam’s says she is interested in psychology research.

I find it odd that she was in contact with her family until Jan 31st. and nobody knows why she went to LA? Was she scouting for jobs, school? Did she meet someone online? Hope they checked her computer records.

Wonder what she was studying ? She graduates in 2016.

I think her family and LE know why she was traveling in California. I think it is the media who doesn't know. That's why they say "it's not known".any

The family seems quite private by nature. Elisa's sister tweeted last night asking that people respect their privacy, stop asking them questions and deal through the police.

If Elisa is supposedly due to graduate in 2016, then she is likely in first year. Many find it difficult to adjust to university, some due to high expectations they place on themselves. Perhaps the stress was too much and she needed a break. This is only speculation on my part and she could be traveling for many different reasons.

I hope you are back in your family's arms soon Elisa.
:please:

It appears it was a leisure trip as per the link posted by Summer Breeze.

I'm not one to travel alone unless it's for business so that's why I always question if there was a purpose to the trip like I stated in my post. Ex: Job, school, love interest, etc. I know women do travel alone and there's nothing wrong with that but I just get this feeling that she was there for a specific reason.

Why that hotel? Cecil hotel? Is that right? I googled and the ad can be quite deceiving. http://www.thececilhotel.com/

LE definitely knows more. I think her cell phone and computer may provide some of the missing pieces.

Hope she's found safe real soon.

To me it sounds like a leisure trip, a site and see type trip. That the family isn't opening up about why she was here is a bit strange, unless they know she went to meet up with someone. However, why wouldn't that person here in LA, if that's where they were/are, not tell her about staying at The Cecil? It's very well known here if you are from Los Angeles, that's not a hotel you recommend for friends.
Which then leads me to believe if she was visiting someone it wasn't in LA first. I wonder what other hotels she was planning on staying at in Santa Cruz?

This hotel, however, is located right smack int he middle of the Fashion District. FIDM is right up the street. Not that my sleuthing has anything to do with FIDM, I did find another Elisa Lam online that is an aspiring model. I cannot tell if they are the same person based on the picture at the modeling site (her head is down, and her arms are raising her hair). FIDM is known to scout models for shoots and fashions shows the school has. I am unsure if the school provides that for the shows, or if the students are required to provide it. AGAIN - THIS PROBABLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS ELISA LAM GOING MISSING, just something I noticed.

From the brother-in-law's twitter page, it appears that he contacted an account associated with a hostel/lodging service. To me that appears that she probably found lodging through their site and booked through those sites.
Maybe there isn't anyone to meet with at all?

Here is the twitter he was communicating with and reaching out to: https://twitter.com/Hostelling

Based in UK? Maybe Elisa might be quite the seasoned traveler already.

(Sidenote: The Cecil didn't come up for me in a booking search, so unsure why they are reaching out to this company. Maybe to reach hostels around the globe?)

Hearing about the phone being left behind doesn't make me feel very good either. I shouldn't have read all those reviews last night cause it's really heartbreaking to think something bad happened. I was trying to hold on to that bit of hope...

Sorry for the long post, and the rambling.

I think she started in Los Angeles, at least that's what I got from my reading of this article.

From earlier reports:

snipped...Records show the college student spent a few days in San Diego before coming to L.A..

Not sure if this is ok to post but I saw her me ruined in a few threads on Reddit this morning. Looks like friends asking for help finding her, providing some info. Worth checking out! I messaged one and directed her here.

Lam's family notified Vancouver police of her disappearance when daily contact with the woman ceased on Jan. 31. Vancouver police in turn notified the LAPD and the case is now being handled by the department's robbery and homicide division, which is standard protocol for cases involving foreign nationals, said LAPD Officer Tenesha Dobine Thursday.

Thanks, tarabull, I had missed that.

Now I'm wondering if we crossed paths, as she looks extremely familiar to me but I haven't been able to figure out why.

NP LW...

Where are you Elisa?
