A person canoeing on the Eel River discovered skeletal remains today near Stafford, confirmed Corp. Bryan Waxler of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department.

I haven't seen this news anywhere but Kym Kemp's site so far. I expect there will be more tomorrow. Stafford is not far from Rio Dell, where Sheila was believed to have disappeared. Thoughts and prayers with her family as they wait.

The Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hanson has featured five Humboldt County missing women, including Sheila and Danielle Bertolini. AFAIK this is the first time that the POI has been publicly named. But there is not enough evidence to name him at a primary suspect.

"James Jones was involved with Sheila and was the last person to see Danielle," said Fortuna Police Officer Brian Taylor.
Sheila, the divorced mother of two sons, had been dating Jones for several months and was actually living with him when she disappeared, according to Sheila's older sister, Melisa Walstrom.
"When he was questioned about my sister, he told police that he and Sheila were at the house and she decided she wanted to go for a walk, and she just left walking, and the last time he had seen her was at the end of the road," said Walstrom.
Which made Jones the last known person to see both Sheila and Danielle alive.

I haven't read up on this case for a long time now, but if memory serves me... my initial conclusion drawn was that this guy was responsible for her disappearance. I think, in fact, everyone here as well as her family members drew the same conclusion.

Yes, it's one of those obvious "the live in boyfriend did it" cases. Suuuuuure Sheila went for a walk and he didn't see her again. But no body, no proof. Same thing with my signature case Stephanie Warner, missing 39 months yesterday. Maddening. :mad:

I'm just glad to see his name and face out there publicly finally and not just on the Find Sheila and Danielle FB pages. Here's hoping someone grows a conscience and tells what they know.
 
Sheila Franks vanished on February 2, 2014, from Fortuna, California. Sheila's mother reported her missing after family members had not heard from her in nearly a month, according to police. The 38-year-old left behind a young son. Officials believe her disappearance may be connected to the case of Danielle Bertolini who vanished shortly after. Danielle's remains were found in March 2015, in California's Eel River. She had been murdered. Both women were reportedly last seen with the same man, and police have said that person is considered a person of interest in both cases. However, no charges have been filed.

ETA: I see that Sheila's family is understandably NOT at all happy that Chiv revealed this tip because it gives the person a heads up. Unfortunately, Chiv is not handling their feelings in a professional manner. I'm very disappointed.

The remains are a man according to story linked above. I didn’t read carefully. So sorry.
 
Kim Kemp joins with the Northcoast Journal in exploring those missing in the Emerald Triangle...Humboldt, Trinity and Mendocino counties. She lists everyone missing in the three counties...at least the ones she could find listed.

Note the event for the families of the missing in Sacramento June 9-10. Quoting Kym’s beautiful writing....
