''South Simcoe Police are set Thursday to ask for the help of Toronto's gay community in connection with a homicide case involving a body found in Bradford last month.

In a news release, police said they will be providing an update at 1 p.m. on the death of 37-year-old Mojtaba Shabani.

They will release a new photo of Shabani and appeal to Toronto's LGBTQ2S+ community.'

''Police said Shabani moved from Iran to Canada in 2010. They added that he had ties to Toronto and appeared "to have lived a transient lifestyle."

''If Toronto serial killer Bruce McArthur had a template for murder, it might have been the Bayou Strangler.''

''Both killers targeted people alone and living on the fringe. Both emitted a regular guy vibe. Both were monsters.''

''After high school, he concluded he was gay and went to a local gay watering hole where he was spotted by classmates who heaped more ridicule on him.''

''The FBI called the Bayou Strangler case the most significant serial killer investigation in 20 years. It never entered the wider national conversation because of Katrina.''

Bruce McArthur: How a shopping mall Santa became a notorious serial killer - BBC Three

BBC is running a 3-part series on Bruce McArthur.

One early quote highlights why he got away with it for so many years and so many victims...
Majeed’s nephew Saber says his uncle’s marriage didn’t work out but he maintained good relations with his children. “He loved his kids and had a good relationship with his wife,” says Saber. “They had normal communication.”
Despite the accounts of Majeed’s relationship with a man, his family say he was not gay.
“Absolutely not,” Saber adds. “I know him very well. He was more man than any other person that I know. He was not into those things. Maybe he was tricked into something.”

Some of the cultures these men came from are just not accepting that a good man could be gay. This will only lead to more victims. Men from these cultures are vulnerable. Just like female (and male) sex workers here in Western society.

''In the years before he became one of Canada’s most notorious serial killers, Bruce McArthur was regularly assessed by probation officers and a psychiatrist and deemed a “stable” person who posed a “very low risk,” newly released documents reveal.

In a rare disclosure, McArthur’s 143-page probation file was released to the Star this week following a four-year freedom-of-information request and a successful appeal to Ontario’s privacy commissioner. The partially redacted records stem from McArthur’s 2001 unprovoked assault on a man — the first known crime he committed before going on to kill eight men connected to Toronto’s Gay Village between 2010 and 2017.

Among the records are documents showing how provincial probation officers monitored McArthur’s conditional sentence after he was convicted of assault for repeatedly striking a man with a metal pipe in 2001. His probation ended in 2008, two years before he committed the first of eight murders.

“Client does not appear to have a procriminal attitude. He does not remember the offence occurring however takes full responsibility for his actions,” reads a June 2003 report.

McArthur, the probation document notes, “is prepared to do what is required to ensure a similar situation will not occur.”

The records include a seven-page letter penned by McArthur himself, in which he details a fraught family life, a devotion to religious activity to “cover my guilt feelings of being gay,” and a harsh adolescence on his parents’ rural Ontario farm.

“I think it was in those years I realized that I was different … not like all the other boys … I am sure my parents knew this also,” McArthur wrote in the undated letter.

The documents were ordered to be released by Ontario’s information and privacy commissioner after a freedom-of-information request filed by the Star in 2019 was denied by the Ministry of the Solicitor General, citing, in part, the serial killer’s privacy rights.''

''Tell us again how there’s no need for consecutive life sentences; of how a serial killer will never see the light of day.''

''Now 58, Palma been given a new lease on life just 27 years after he went hunting for people he dismissed as “scum” on a rain-soaked Victoria Day in 1996, shooting three Toronto sex workers in the head with a .357 Magnum in the space of an hour.

“The board is granting full parole today,” chief board member Maureen Gauci told the nervous Palma following a 90-minute hearing Thursday.''

''And just like that, a serial killer is free, as if he’d killed only one person during that murderous rampage that night – and not three''
