You may be hearing some people say that the flu is deadlier than the novel coronavirus; that’s because they don’t really understand the math. Here’s a breakdown of the differences between the two viruses and what you should understand about #COVID2019: 1/

Let’s get this out of the way: “Flu can kill Americans by the tens of thousands, but that’s because it’s been around so long and has had so much time to spread. Millions get the virus every year, and fewer than 0.1 percent of them perish from it.” 2/

For comparison, the World Health Organization currently estimates #Covid19’s fatality rate to be about 3.4 percent globally. 3/

But without adequate and complete testing, nobody knows HOW many people the novel coronavirus will ultimately infect. Scientists know a lot more about influenza—and have a vaccine against it, too. #COVID2019 4/

Part of what makes the coronavirus so concerning is that it's new. That means we don't have a vaccine for it. And we most likely won't have one for over a year. #COVID2019

Fulton County Schools teacher tests positive for coronavirus; schools closed Tuesday

“Fulton County School Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney said the Georgia Department of Health notified the district Monday morning that an itinerant teacher who works at Bear Creek Middle School in Fairburn and Woodland Middle School in East Point had tested positive for COVID-19. The teacher was at school Friday when she fell ill. Staff members called 911 to take her to the hospital, where she has been ever since.”

Seattle copying Korean drive-thru-testing. “Seattle has turned a hospital garage lot into a drive-through clinic that can test a person every 5 min— results within a day or so. But the idea also about safety— doesn’t put hospital HCWs at risk.” #COVID19 Seattle Health Care System Offers Drive-Through Coronavirus Testing For Workers

When I saw that on the news, I was inspired. They do not go inside of a building but drive through an open air parking lot and have the test. Even if they have to await confirmation with a phone call, text or email, this seems like the most effective and efficient way to minimize spread and maximize numbers. The test takers were all geared up.

We can't save you': Australians are told to CANCEL any overseas cruise travel as government says it won't help if tourists are struck down with coronavirus

Australians have been urged to reconsider taking an overseas cruise in the wake of the coronavirus.

‘Disruptions to cruise ship itineraries due to COVID-19 can have significant consequences for travellers. The situation is fluid and you can expect further disruptions,' the website said.

'Repatriation from cruise ships affected by COVID-19 should not be relied upon as an option.'

I personally don’t think anybody should go on a cruise right now especially those in the coronavirus high risk groups.

Anxiety in an aging Congress as coronavirus marches across U.S.
"There's a lot of concern that members could bring it home," a senior Democratic leadership aide says as offices discuss recessing Congress.

Anxiety in an aging Congress as coronavirus marches across U.S.

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., said in a statement on Monday that would self-quarantine for 14 days after CPAC officials "discovered a photo of myself and the patient who has tested positive for coronavirus." Collins met with President Donald Trump last week during a visit to the CDC headquarters in Atlanta.

An aide for Collins told NBC News that in addition to the congressman, two staffers from his office are also self-quarantining
.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, announced late Sunday that he will stay home in Texas this week because he also had a brief interaction with a person attending CPAC who has tested positive.

Gosar, Cruz and Collins all said they were experiencing no symptoms but were acting out of caution.

"Members are very nervous," a senior Democratic leadership aide said. "There's a lot of concern that members could bring it home."
