What they told police

On Dec. 17, Davis and Sims were looking to purchase marijuana, so Davis contacted Sawyer, according to the court records.

Sims told investigators that when Sawyer pulled into Newton Place Apartments on 100 Mandarin Drive in Oak Grove, where the pair were located, Davis handed Sims a ski mask and told Sims they were going to rob Sawyer. Davis got in the front passenger seat of Sawyer’s car, and Sims got the rear passenger side.

Sims told investigators that, without saying anything, Davis shot Sawyer in the leg and then told Sawyer to drive. Sawyer continued driving for a little over 3 miles to the Shell gas station on Kentucky Route 115 in Oak Grove. Davis then shot Sawyer in the other leg and made him get out of the car, according to the records.

The investigation led Kentucky State Police to surveillance footage that showed Sawyer’s white Honda Civic pull up next to a gas pump at the Shell. The court records state that the footage shows Sawyer’s car sitting in that spot at the pump for about an hour and 15 minutes.

Surveillance footage

On the footage, investigators witnessed movement inside the car, and after some time, the front passenger door and driver’s door both opened. The records state Davis was seen getting out of the car first, and he walked around the rear of the car to the driver’s door, where he could be seen reaching into the car.

Davis is then seen helping Sawyer out of the car, but Sawyer gets caught on the seatbelt. After Davis untangles Sawyer from the seatbelt, Sawyer is seen collapsing to the ground, at which point Davis tries to lift him toward the driver’s side rear door. Then Sims, with his ski mask on, gets out and helps Davis get Sawyer into the back seat.

Henry told KSP investigators that Sawyer was dead when he helped Davis move Sawyer from the back seat of his car to the trunk.

The car was later found in Georgia. The records don’t specify where in Georgia.

So after shooting him, they made him drive to the gas station, supposedly shot him again, & they stayed there for a lil over an hour? Am I reading that correct?

Yes, it's hard to believe, isn't it? They shot him and let him bleed to death! How could nobody at the gas station notice ? This is just so tragic. :( MOO

The family of Justin Sawyer, who went missing on Dec. 17 and was killed as part of a robbery, is organizing a search on Saturday, Feb. 6, after detectives working the case said they have exhausted all leads in finding his body.
Bless their hearts. :( I hope they're able to assemble a wealth of volunteers.

  • Clarksville Police Detective Tanner Pew said most of the search will be taking place in Kentucky.
  • Both detectives said they’re waiting on the return of search warrants sent to a cell phone company for location pings on where Davis might have travelled on the evening of Dec. 17.

Although his body has not been recovered, police believe he was killed during a robbery. Video surveillance from the gas station and cooperation from the three men who were arrested in January on various charges tied to the case, led investigators to come to that conclusion.

If the three arrested have cooperated with investigators, I wonder what is keeping them from revealing where the body is?

Snipped--Per WS TOS, I removed names and links.

Shortly after the search for the day ended, [Sawyer’s aunt] posted a message on Facebook written to the family of Davis, one of the men charged in the robbery and presumed slaying of Justin Sawyer:

Dear D. D. and D. C.
We the family of Justin Sawyer humbly ask that you speak with your son Dewaun Davis and ask the whereabouts of our Justin Sawyer. We are not asking for much, all we want is closure and take him to his final resting place. We know that Justin is resting well with the Lord. But I know we can all agree that no mother nor father deserve to be put in such an undeserving situation; knowing their child is dead and not knowing where his body is located. I am sure you all know that we are here today searching for him and looking for clues. We all know this could be avoided if you as parents step in and ask him and not try to protect him from the truth. We are physically and mentally exhausted but as I’m sure you all can tell, We Won’t Give Up.
Thanks in advance
The Family of Justin Tyler Sawyer

It sounds as though they haven't done a grid search of the area where the blanket was found. Yet, anyway. I wonder if they did that today? MOO

As volunteers continued the search, one of the searchers who’d been assigned a region to search by car texted Alexander an address and photo. The photo was of a blanket that had stains.

I’m unsure. I recall a section of the article was titled Grid Search. Uncertain if it included the area where the blanket was found.

I don't think so but the details in this article are confusing. They met at 7260 Pembroke Oak Grove Rd which is near the Shell station, caravanned to a location in Pembroke, Kentucky, split into groups and searched a 2-mile section of Hwy 115. This and the search behind the Newton Apts are described under the section of the article entitled "Grid Search." However, the apts are SOUTH of the Shell Station (100 Mandarin Dr, Oak Grove) and meet-up location/search HQ.

Hwy 115 runs north of the Shell station and search HQ. The blanket was found 20 miles NE of there by someone assigned a region to search by car.

Man, I sure hope they can find him. It sounds like looking for a needle in a haystack. This poor family. :( MOO
