Jack Callahan, the 19-year-old who was accused of murdering his father in a Duxbury pond, said that he was baptizing him in the water because he saw “demons” in his father’s eyes, according to a statement Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz.

Jack Callahan pleaded not guilty in Plymouth District Court Tuesday for murder in connection with the death of Scott Callahan, his 57-year-old father. The judge ordered he be held without bail.

Around midnight on Monday, Jack Callahan went to pick up his father from Boston and bring him back to Duxbury in a rideshare vehicle. He was concerned about his father’s wellbeing, according to a WHDHreport.

“The defendant in the Uber used the Uber driver’s phone to make a phone call to his mother, where his mother was overheard saying that he could not bring the victim to their house,” prosecutor Shanan Buckingham according to WHDH. “It was believed at the time from witnesses that the victim appeared to be intoxicated … The defendant then ordered the Uber driver to go to the pond.”

At about 2 a.m., police received a phone call to report that Callahan was acting erratically and that this father was missing around Crocker Park and Island Creek Pond in Duxbury. When police responded to Jack’s residence on Sampson street, they found him “distraught and hyperventilating,” according to the authorities.

Around the same time, other officers responded to the pond and found Scott Callahan submerged in the water. EMS attempted to save his life but he was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.
