I don't think there's any evidence to support this theory. The medical examiner would have been able to determine if JO was hit by a bottle.

Here's a case where scientists were able to determine from the fracture pattern in a 33,000 year old skull that the wound occurred right before the man's death and that he was killed violently in a blunt weapon attack and not from a fall. They were even able to conclude that his attacker was likely left-handed.

Hmm. Thank you very much, what an interesting article.
I wonder if they did CT of JO's body during autopsy? It seems that it could be of relevance. Also, playing with a model of his body to see what could create his injuries. Could the bumper of a car do it? At what speed should a car move then?

That's a good point. Even if the family dog did bite Jon would those wound have been fatal? Is the defense saying that a person or people in the house beat John up and then the dog bit his arm and then they dragged him outside and threw him in the snow and then made up the snowplow/KR story? How could the assailants have known that KR would have a broken tail light or when the plow would come by. While the conspiracy theories are interesting none of them add up for me. To me it's a case of drunk driving causing death. I don't know what the temperature was overnight there but if somebody is injured and then lays out in the cold they may die of hypothermia.

I once had the "luck" of seeing the wounds left by "a friendly neighborhood" dog. Honestly, they don't look like these ones. The only thing I could see is that these were certain marks on a very dead body, sorry. Today I am wondering, could some special winter tires/chains leave them?

If/when KR walks free, it will be owing to her own quick wits and her lawyer's qualification, but Proctor's unprofessional behavior would be a major contributor. All of it was so unnecessary. I wouldn't be surprised to see there many dramatic moments in this process. Once upon a time, KR was living with JO, trying to take care of his kids and probably, loved him. I think she never planned to remain friends with Erin, she just wanted to have support among John's family while he was alive. Of course she doesn't want to end up in jail, and I feel she wouldn't. However, even if she walks free, there will be no winners in this story. JMO.

Took another listen to opening statements. Made an opinion earlier post about defense attorney Yannetti sounding angry but I now feel he sounded strong in opening. Not that it matters— But, it matters to me to set my opinion(s) correct. ;) I am accountable for my opinions and recant my earlier post. moo

1/I didn't make it into the courtroom, but I watched the entire day of the #KarenRead TrialHere are some thoughts. How did the lawyers do with their opening statements?

2/We heard from witnesses today. My impressions of what Officer John O'Keefe's brother and sister-in-law accomplished, and who it might have benefited.

3/Be sure to watch "Canton Confidential: The Karen Read Trial" tonight at 7p on @NBC10Boston @NECN and our streaming and digital platforms.

From the article (and there's so much more @link):

...

"You will learn on the very day that John O'Keefe was found dead on Brian Albert's lawn, Michael Proctor was texting with his high school buddies about this supposedly secret investigation, using his personal cell phone," Yannetti said. "He was revealing information about this investigation to his friends, assuming that nobody would ever find out what he was doing and what he was saying. He was revealing his true thoughts about Karen Read to his friends. Not what he put in his sanitized police reports -- his true feelings, to his friends who he trusted and in text messages he never thought would come into the hands of the defense in this case."

"Lead investigator Michael Proctor called Karen Read names you would reserve only for your worst enemies. He told his friends that he hoped she would kill herself. He told his friends he had seized her cellphone."

...

Norfolk Assistant District Attorney Adam Lally outlined the Commonwealth's case, saying that Read even said, "I hit him, I hit him, I hit him," in the hours after O'Keefe's death. He indicated that jurors will hear from some of the people who were inside the house where O'Keefe was found and from investigators involved with the case.

"Karen Read was framed," defense attorney David Yannetti said in his opening. "Her car never struck John O'Keefe, she did not cause his death, and that means someone else did."

He argued that the lead investigator on the case, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor, had "deep ties" to the Albert family, the owners of the home outside which O'Keefe's body was found, and that the investigation into O'Keefe's death was not conducted properly.

"Michael Proctor never stepped foot inside the Albert home on Jan. 29 of 2022, never checked out whether there were any signs of struggle inside that home, never called for crime scene technicians and other specialists to look out for blood or other trace evidence in the home. He never asked Brian Albert for permission to go inside the home... never applied for a search warrant to go in that home. Instead, he focused immediately and exclusively on Karen Read, the outsider."

Good morning from court where testimony continues in the Commonwealth vs. Karen Read. We finished yesterday afternoon with Canton Police Officer Steven Saraf on the stand. He was one of the first responders at 34 Fairview Rd when John O'Keefe was found in the snow. The defense will have a chance to question him today if they choose.

We're underway. Judge acknowledges the tough time many people had getting in due to the traffic problems this morning. Officer Saraf is called back to witness stand

Alan Jackson is doing cross and asks if Officer Saraf would like to change or modify his testimony from yesterday

Jackson asking Saraf about discrepancies in the police dispatch log. Saraf confirms times of arrivals are wrong

Dispatch log shows the scene as 32 Fairview Rd when the address was 34 Fairview Rd. Jackson says the log is “faulty"

Saraf told a state grand jury he responded to 35 Fairview Rd. Jackson is trying to show bad record keeping and discrepancies from the outset of this case.

Jackson asks Saraf if he was trying to "mask the address" of Brian Albert (34 Fairview). At the time Brian Albert was a Boston Police Officer

Jackson asks Ofc Saraf a number of questions about Jen McCabe including if she was trying to save JO's life at the scene

Ofc Sarah confirms the only statement he attributed to Read in his report is KR saying "Is he dead?" repeatedly. Saraf described her as severely distraught in his reporting

Ofc Saraf says he doesn't recall meeting with Prosecutor Lally prior to his testimony to a state grand jury. Jackson accuses Saraf of "changing his story”

Jackson showing dash cam video and asks Ofc Saraf if Read is heard saying, "I left him and he never came home", I'm in the back of the courtroom and could not make out the audio

Jackson shows video he says shows Jennifer McCabe walking into 34 Fairview Rd. He asks Ofc Saraf if it's appropriate for her to walk into the house at a "crime scene”

Saraf confirms he did not locate any tail light pieces or JO's missing shoe. Jackson asks "did it ever occur to you to look inside the house?" Saraf said that would not be appropriate protocol

Prosecutor Lally on redirect asks Ofc Saraf about his April 2022 GJ testimony where he says KR said "It's my fault" at the scene.

Ofc Saraf says he saw no one from any of the houses come outside when he was there. This is in response to defense asking about Alberts not coming outside.Saraf's testimony is complete

Canton Police Ofc Stephen Mullaney is up next.

Ofc. Mullaney says nothing sticks out to him about what the ground underneath JO was like when JO was moved to an ambulance

Some jurors are ping-ponging their heads back and forth between ADA Lally and Ofc Mullaney. Others are locked in on Mullaney. many taking notes

Mullaney says he was called back to 34 Fairview Rd for reports that KR was threatening suicide after JO had been taken to Good Sam

Yannetti on cross asks Ofc. Mullaney if he remembers who was giving CPR to JO when he arrived. Mullaney says -at the time- he wasn't sure who it was

@TedDanielnews

Officer Mullaney says Jennifer McCabe was calm and not distraught but Read was - and kept repeating "is he dead?" and "that's my boyfriend"

Officer Mullaney says he never heard Read say "i hit him" when he was at the scene. Mullaney says a Lt used a leaf blower to clear the area where O'Keefe's body was found

@SueNBCBoston

Defense has no further questions. Prosecutor Lally returns. When you’re on a scene, does everyone act the same?Mullaney: no
Did you see anyone come or on of any house? No
Yannetti asks a question. Did any other residence have a dead body on the lawn?
Judge having none of that.
