CHICAGO -- Illinois State Police say former police officer Drew Peterson remains a prime suspect in his wife's disappearance.

Sergeant Thomas Burek says investigators have new information that only reinforces that the suburban Chicago man is a suspect in Stacy Peterson's disappearance.

The state police spokesman didn't provide details.

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― Just days after Drew Peterson and his attorney claimed a racy text message may prove Stacy Peterson ran off with another man, State Police reaffirmed Friday that the former Bolingbrook cop is still "our suspect" in the disappearance of his wife.

State Police issued a statement, noting Stacy Peterson's upcoming 24th birthday Sunday and saying "it is apparent that Stacy did not voluntarily cease all contact with her children, family and friends."

Investigators have recently taken a "revised view'' of the case and have followed "additional investigative tracks,'' the statement said.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas J. Burek would not elaborate on the statement other than to say it was not issued in response to the release of the text message earlier this week.

BOLINGBROOK -- The family of missing mom Stacy Peterson took aim at a clue her husband's attorney claims clears his client from suspicion in her disappearance.

Pam Bosco, the legal guardian of Stacy's sister, Cassandra Cales, said state police informed her the critical break in the case -- an anonymous text message -- is actually worthless.

"They said, 'Pam, it's not worthwhile,'" said Bosco, who has taken on the role of spokeswoman for Stacy's family.

CHICAGO — Former police sergeant Drew Peterson remains a suspect in his wife's disappearance but he's still keeping up with the ladies.

Peterson, who denies any involvement in Stacy Peterson's disappearance and claims that she left him for another man, recently visited a tavern where he received attention from female patrons, according to a report.

"I turn heads," Peterson told The Herald News. "It's not something I want. It's like, 'Yeah, it's me.'"

Suspect In Wife's Disappearance Agrees To Play 'Dating Game' On Steve Dahl's Radio Show

Drew Peterson, whose fourth wife has been missing for months, is apparently looking for a date.

Peterson has agreed to participate in a "Drew Peterson Dating Game'' segment on legendary radio talker Steve Dahl's morning show. Dahl has been lampooning Peterson for months and the former suburban police sergeant called into the show on 104.3 JACK-FM this morning.

During the conversation, Peterson agreed to participate in a "Win A Date With Drew'' contest tomorrow on the air.

Late Wednesday afternoon, WJMK-FM General Manager Peter Bowen released a statement saying: "Steve never intended on doing this promotion or any promotion that would put his listeners in harm's way. The Dating Game idea was conceived by Peterson and Brodsky, not by Steve Dahl or any one else at the station."

Bowen also said that if Peterson called the station, he would not be allowed on the air.

Drew Peterson's lawyer doesn't just want to clear his client's name in the disappearance of Peterson's wife. He wants to help him find him a date.

The case of former Bolingbrook police sergeant whose missing wife has put him under suspicion and at the center of a media maelstrom, got even more bizarre this morning as he and his lawyer called into a Chicago radio show and his lawyer proposed they return Thursday for a "Win a Date With Drew Contest."

Longtime Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl, who has had running comedy bits on his WJMK-FM 104.3 morning show in which he parodies Peterson, was stunned but said all right and agreed to be the chaperone on the resulting date with Peterson, 53, whom Illinois State Police say they consider the prime suspect in the Oct. 28 disappearance of his wife, Stacy, whose 24th birthday was Sunday.

Lawyer: Drew Deserves To Have Fun

Drew Peterson's lawyer Joel Brodsky said Peterson appeared on WJMK-FM with longtime Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl on Wednesday and agreed to come back Thursday to play "Win a Date with Drew Peterson."

But WJMK-FM general manager Peter Bowen said the station never intended to have such a game. And he said Peterson and his attorney approached the station -- not the other way around.

Bolingbrook, IL - The Amazing Kreskin, a well-known mentalist, has withdrawn his offer to aid in the search for missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson, citing her husband’s lawyer’s refusal to allow his client to meet with Kreskin.

“I’ve washed my hands of the whole thing,” Kreskin said. “I am pissed off.”

Drew Peterson's former friend, Ric Mims, appeared again before a special grand jury Thursday, this time to testify about how he and Peterson used to follow Peterson's third wife around before their divorce was settled.

After spending about 45 minutes in the Will County grand jury room, Mims told reporters that he was asked mostly about Kathleen Savio, Peterson's ex-wife who was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004.

While Drew Peterson's attorney touted another purported sighting of Stacy Peterson in Peoria and said on national TV he believed the case had gone cold and was winding down, authorities said the special grand jury that met on the probe Thursday is slated to meet for another four months.

An official of the Peoria homeless shelter where Stacy Peterson was reportedly seen said it was a case of mistaken identity.

"We know that she's missing and all that; we would have definitely connected with the proper authorities if needed," said Pam Schubach, chief executive officer of YWCA Peoria, which runs the shelter for women and children. "But it's a false sighting."

Before Drew Peterson could buy a house in 2002 for himself and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Stacy Cales, he needed his estranged wife, Kathleen Savio, to sign off on the deal.

But Savio's signature on the legal document looks radically different from more than a dozen others she had written before she died in 2004, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found. "That's definitely not her signature," Savio's sister, Anna Doman, said after viewing a copy of the one-page power of attorney that Drew Peterson himself notarized. "I know that's not her signature."

New: Judge to rule soon on Peterson's possessions

January 25, 2008
BY STEWART WARREN Staff Writer

"The state still has Drew Peterson’s cars, guns and computers.

But Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt soon will decide if everything will be returned to the retired Bolingbrook police officer — or not."

"Joel Brodsky, Peterson’s Chicago-based lawyer, came to Schoenstedt’s courtroom Friday morning to see if the judge would release everything else. Peterson did not appear in court.

During the brief hearing, Schoenstedt decided that Will County Assistant State’s Attorney John Connor and District 5 State Police Commander Ken Kaupas could meet privately with him Friday morning to explain why they wanted to keep Peterson’s property. At 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1, Brodsky will tell his side of the story in open court. Then the judge will decide what to do with the cars, guns and computers."

Woman, lawyer hurl insults

January 25, 2008
By Dan Rozek Sun-Times news group

""This is not a joke, idiots. Someone is still missing," suburban resident Deborah Valure wrote in a blistering e-mail to Brodsky-- whom she also called a "pig" -- after she heard the Chicago attorney and Peterson bantering on-air Wednesday morning with DJ Steve Dahl."

"Brodsky's response to Valure only infuriated her.

"What's the matter, Deborah, not getting any?" Brodsky replied in a Thursday e-mail. Later Thursday, Brodsky defended his response, essentially saying Valure started hurling the insults.

"She calls me a pig and a whack job of a lawyer. This is my response," Brodsky said, adding: "I guess she can dish it out but she can't take it."

Valure ripped the e-mail and Brodsky, saying his remarks "just show his disrespect for women. The way he responded to me was just absolutely wrong.""

For the first time, the Will County state's attorney's office has confirmed that a grand jury is investigating the disappearance of Drew Peterson's fourth wife Stacy, and the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio.

As CBS 2's Rafael Romo reports, as the grand jury examines the evidence, a status hearing will be held Friday morning at the Will County Courthouse to make a final determination on whether Drew Peterson may recover items seized from his house as part of the investigation.
